It was free on Craigslist. I didn't want to grill the guy to hard on how it broke.

    Re: Onkyo DTR-80.1

I only checked the PNP's on top. The mates are way down in there. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the preamp boards out, so I can access the lower ones. It looks like I might have to take the whole thing apart. If the idle bias is out of spec on one channel, can that cause other channels to fail? I'm kind of a noob. Thanks for you patients and understanding....

Can the idle bias be checked on a dead circuit? I also found 6 out of the 9 output transistors to be toast. Do you think this thing is worth fixing? I think it was a $3000 amp back in the day. If you care to look at the manual, the output stages are on page 10 and 11.

Okay, so you are correct. 6 out of the 9 output transistors are toast. Do you think this thing is worth fixing at this point?...

    Onkyo DTR-80.1

Hi guys, I'm working on an Integra DTR-80.1 receiver, with complaint of smoke, and some channels not working. Upon inspection, I immediately noticed some exploded/bulged caps on what looks to be the preamp stage(?) 5 out of the 9 channels have the same bad cap (C6026, C6021, C6022, C6023, C6025), also, those bad channels, also each had a resistor way out of spec (R6286, R6281, R6282, R6283, R6285). Fuses F6603 and F6604 are blown. Is there anything else I should check before I throw fuses at it, and function check? Also, do these channels pop out with just one screw at the bottom? It would be...

Hi, thank you for replying. I included some pictures below. The output transistors are kind of obscured by the fins on the heat sink. If you need better pics of any particular place, I'll try to get more....

Hi, thank you for replying. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I didn't get notifications for some reason. Yes, I checked checked those 4 diodes with the diode checker on my DMM, and they seem to be fine. The resistance between the fuses and ground, measures about 3.7 mega ohm. I uploaded some pics, let me know if there is an area that you need better pics of....

  • Re: Marantz sr5200/u1b static noise DSP?

I bought a USB oscilloscope, but when I compared signwave of the right vs. left channel, I can't see any difference between the two, even though I can audibly hear the difference. Is there a way I can use the scope to isolate the static? Or is there another way I can trace the static? Anybody?

  • Marantz sr5200/u1b static noise DSP?

I have a Marantz sr5200/u1b AV 6.1 receiver that is making a static/crackling noise out of the front right channel. It goes away when source direct is engaged in analog mode, but it's always there in digital mode whether source direct is engaged or not. Also, the noise is absent when the 7 channel direct inputs are used. All the fuses, and caps on the main board and input board are within their rated spec. I've read that most receivers run an A-D-D-A configuration, so I'm thinking this has something to do with the DSP function? Can somebody point me in the right direction? Any help would be much...

  • Harman kardon AVR 310 blow fuses

I'm trying to fix my Harman kardon AVR 310. Fuses FU484 and FU483 (on main board) are both blown. Unit powers up, but no sound and some front panel lights not working. I've tested all of the capacitors on the main board with my ESR meter, and 7 showed [in circuit / leaky] I removed 6 out of the 7 (one was super hard to get to) and they all tested fine. I also tested the caps on the stand by board, and found one at the top that was a cold solder joint, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the fused blowing or not. I also tested the 4 large diodes right after the fuses and those seem...

  • HK AVR 1700 No audio or video through HDMI ports

Hello, I have a Harman Kardon AVR 1700, and the HDMI ports have seemingly stopped working. The analog inputs still work fine. I downloaded a service manual for it, but the trouble shooting section really doesn't address this at all. I do have a DMM, but don't really know where to start. I'm thinking maybe the whole HDMI board may be dead, but i would like to confirm that before I get a replacement board for it. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello from the Granite State. I can't stand the idea that we live in a consumption based economy. It's a great feeling when you resurrect an electronic device back from the dead for next to nothing. The dumpster will have to wait! I want my electronics to last a lifetime. I'd like to learn more about repairing electronic circuits, and to share my knowledge with other people. Right now i'm only fixing simple things like exploded capacitors, cracked solder joints, and obvious shorts (burnt smell, black spot on PCB's) I've brought...
