• Re: List of Bad Cap Manufacturers

I hope this isn't off-topic, but I just bought a couple of packets of cheap electrolytics on ebay. One packet was 125 caps (5 each of 25 types, various brand names, all marked 105 degrees C). I tested their ESR, and found that half of them were higher than the limit specified on my ESR meter. One was defective (open circuit). The other packet was 50 caps, all 220 uF 16 V, marked 105 C, and branded Chenxing. For all but one of them, ESR varied from 0.48 Ohms to 0.64 Ohms, where the limit specified on my meter is 0.4. The one exception was 0.96, which...

• Re: Samsung LA40A650A1F possible eeprom problem

I'm guessing a factory second was worked on by a tech of some kind rather than an amateur, and this suggests that the missing screw had been left out for a reason. On the other hand I used to know a qualified radar tech who worked full time for a ship electronics contractor. I noticed that he had a habit of leaving out a couple of screws from the covers of everything he worked on. He said he did it deliberately, because otherwise people sometimes questioned whether he had actually worked on the set.
To me, a missing screw is...

I had to replace the EEPROM, not reset it. The Samygo trick (briefly shorting pins 5 and 8, not 5 and 6) is intended to get the TV working just enough to enable you to open the Service Menu, it isn't supposed to fix whatever is wrong. Did you try the Service Menu once you had the raster?

If you decide to focus on the EEPROM later, you'll probably find that it is the one circled in red in the attached picture of the area around the main processor on the main board.

Best of luck with the eye surgery, hope it works out well for you....

• Re: Samsung LA40A650A1F possible eeprom problem

I have posted recently on that same model and approximately that problem, in this thread:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38510

Yes, the blank replacement AT24C256C IC should self-program when you power up the set, but it is likely to have some errors, and this will not be corrected by applying the Samygo fix to rewrite the EEPROM contents. I suggest you save a picture of the summary screen in the service menu, to get the type number of the TV - mine is 40A1UFOC, and I expect yours will...

• Re: LE32B550A5P eeprom reset

It seems unlikely that you are still looking for an answer 2 years later, but I may have one in case any history buff looks at this thread in the future. Here is a picture of part of the main board of a Samsung LA40B650T1FXXY. The EEPROM you need to replace is marked ATMLH902:

As you can see, it is in the expected and logical place, right beside the main processor, and close to the master copy of the firmware (the IC with the white sticker giving the original firmware type number). It is also inside the rectangle around the main processor,...

• Re: T-CON Check Spreadsheet

I hope I'm not interrupting this thread, but I want to thank tom66 for all that he has revealed about AS15 ICs. It has been extremely helpful to me. I was just given a Samsung LA40B650 with a solarized picture (both picture and menu affected). Shopjimmy's videos assured me that I needed to look at the T-Con, and with tom66's posts I went straight to the AS15-U. It got warm after a couple of minutes running, though I could hold my finger on it without pain. So I checked the VGMA test points:
VG1 15.54
VG2 15.19
VG4 12.88
VG6 10.99...
