  • Re: Samsung Syncmaster 931BW - No Power

From all the great help you've given many people on this forum I'd say you're easily much closer to being a genius than me. You are truly very knowledgable.
Trouble is you can also be very condescending, self righteous and even plain mean to some people. Heaven forbid if they don't use correct punctuation or do something else you deem wrong.

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that you won't be hearing from me on "your" forum any more.

To the OP and renard-ad, I hope you're successful...

Are you sure? Wouldn't want to go blindly replacing a transformer. That'd be just plain foolish.

Really? Now why didn't anyone else mention eBay? Oh wait......

As I stated quite clearly (or so I thought), a faulty transformer was found to be the cause in my case. Never did I say it's going to be the cause of the problem with other monitors.
Futhermore, I also stated the resistance readings from each secondary were quite different therefore indicating a transformer fault, so I didn't replace it blindly nor did I suggest that anyone should do so.

I was just pointing out that a faulty transformer is a legitimate cause of these symptoms with this model of monitor...

I don't know if this will be of any help, but I recently repaired a Samsung 940N with the same board (from memory) as that shown by renard-ad.

In my case the fault was caused by the inverter transformer. It's resistance between the two outputs was quite different. It was causing one CCFL to be very dim for the second or two before it shut down.

I bought a replacement transformer on eBay from this shop.

    Thanks for your valuable help.

I'll try resoldering as suggested and if it works I'll let you know. If not I'll use it for parts. These monitors just aren't worth enough these days to put a whole lot of time into fixing them....

    Thanks for the help guys.

PlainBill, I'm getting 5.15v and 11.5v on the outputs.
R124 measures approx 16k as far as I can tell.
C120 I don't seem to be able to measure properly. If I stick the meter on one way it reads about 1.5nF, but put the probes on reversed I get no reading at all.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by check the heat sink for the output diodes.

Dgtech, I checked Vcc on pin 3. According to the specs it should have a max of 20v, my measurement was 14.4v with the ccfl's...

  • Viewsonic VA 903m shutting off/on

Hi everyone. Been reading a bit of the valuable info on this site to get a better understanding of how these things work, but I'm stumped with this problem so this is my first post asking for help.

This monitor was given to me. The symptom is that it turns on ok but after about a minute it will shut down for a few seconds, then turn on and shut off almost immediately, then keeps repeating this cycle.
You can also hear a prominent click from the inbuilt speakers during the cycle.

When I opened it up it was obvious someone's already had a go at this at some...
