Well, my Sceptre is back in action, and more importantly I think I can keep it that way as long as the panel itself holds out. (forgive the smilies, I don't usually use them but there's a fun selection here so I'm going to play with them...)

So, I'll outline what I should have done:

Since it went black but the sound and picture continued to function the backlighting LED's were the logical cause.

There are a couple of dozen very small Philips screws around the outside edge on the back of the set that hold...

Hello all! Excellent forum here, glad I found my way to it.

My Sceptre X505BV-FMQR died last week, going completely black while I was watching it. It still had sound so I figured there was hope.

I found the flashlight trick here and it showed my picture was still active. I'm not much on using a multimeter (tho I have one around here somewhere) and a PS board was just $26 on ebay so I ordered one. I has very happy to find a local supplier ("TV chop shop", shows you how the world has changed ) and had the board...
