  • Re: Pioneer PDP-5060 upper half panel failure

    Success!

It took me a few days to order all of the necessary soldering gear. I watched a bunch of youtube videos about SMT soldering, then I practiced removing resistors and replacing them with solder on an old VGA card. Once I was satisfied with my results on the practice board I replaced the 0 ohm resistor in the panel (see pic). Now everything is working as expected. Thanks to all who took time to respond....

Tom, thanks for the reply. Just to verify, are we talking about what I've circled in red in this picture?

What is the recommended procedure for removing the resistor? I don't currently have any soldering equipment, what do you suggest I purchase?...

  • Pioneer PDP-5060 upper half panel failure

I have a 6G Pioneer plasma, PDP-5060 (panel PDP-506PU). A couple of days ago I had some kind of failure that affects the upper half of the panel. The bottom half is fine, but the upper half is mostly dark with some green. There appear to be some artifacts from what was showing at the time of failure, and if I look closely I can still see some faint traces of the picture updating when a signal is provided. Occasionally here's some flicker in the upper half accompanied by some clicking/buzzing. I was in a different room when the failure occurred so unfortunately I don't know what that looked/sounded...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, I found these forums while searching for info about my failed plasma TV. I've been building/repairing computers for years so I'm hoping that I can fix the TV. I've got my fingers crossed that your community can get me pointed in the right direction.
