Did you use good quality thermal paste, like MX4? Sounds like you used the cheap stuff... which is likely contributing to the issue.
Reflowing isn't going to do you any good in terms of long term fixes.

Glad to hear that you got it working.
As i recall, the four strings are connected as two channels on the power supply board.
The SMPS silk screen shows the output of CH1 as 219V @ 245mA, and CH2 as 274V @ 245mA.
How are you conneting the annoted of string 1 to the cathode of string 2? By a wire? Or by plugging it in to the respective connector?
The LED strip 1, and LED strip 2 are connected on the power supply board once you have it hooked up with the wiring harness. This makes output...

Hi all -
Update - I was able to extract the SPI flash contents by wiring up my Aardvark SPI flash programmer to it. I dumped the contents twice and compared the binary contents with a diff tool. Looks the same.
As noted in Post #8, i found a 25Q16CSIG SPI flash from one of my junk boards. The "C" version is electrically equivalent, it just has faster timing so it should be a drop-in compatible.
I programmed the 25Q16CSIG. The programming verified as good...

I was going through junk boards and found a 25Q16[B]C[/B]SIG. The "C" device datasheet says the programming time is faster than the "B" version that i have on the board.
The other parameters and pinout appear to be the same from a quick glance.
Also, I do have a Total Phase Aardvark that will read SPI devices. I just need to make an adapter board before i attempt to connect to it and read the contents out.

Thanks for the quick suggestions... Sorry for the poor lighting. I've left this TV in the garage - in quarantine if you will. I'll have some additional time to look at this tomorrow.
The SOIC8 is a 25Q16BSIG - a quad SPI flash made by GigaDevice. I've run out of freeze spray and canned air. I'll have to source more cans. Good call.
If we weren't locked down, i'd just remove the SPI flash and take it to work to read out the contents and verify the device...Last edited by ngth82; 04-21-2020, 08:36 PM.

Has anyone ever worked on a “Silo” branded tv?
I have one. Model SL-4013. The tv is in great physical shape.
The tv only comes on very now and then. The backlights are good - I dismantled the tv and checked out the strings.
The backlight circuit comes up to ~35V when it’s not working. It goes up to 75V to illuminate the strings when it works.
The big cap stays at 165V in a working and broken state.

Interesting... can you check the four rectifying diodes on that power board? Wait until the big caps discharge first. If you can, either remove the diode from the circuit, or just lift one leg off first.

Just getting to my e-mail... standby goes down to 1.3V? STBY isn't loaded down when the TV is off (e.g it's within nominal), and shouldn't be when the TV is on.
Edit: also, you are missing a few pin numbers... You have pins 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 30... where are the rest?Last edited by ngth82; 04-12-2020, 08:33 PM.

I powered up the TV a little while ago - still works. I'm not under any impression the heatgun will be a permanent fix. Keeping the device cool has its merits.
In any case, the heatsink fins for the processor is very thin. The backcover is almost touching. The cover has perforated holes in this region. Maybe i can bolt on a 80 mm PC chassis fan on to the outside chassis using the existing holes. I can power it from the 24V line and use a variable switching supply board to regulate it down to 12V. At work, we take our products through temperature cycling and HALT (highly accelerated life testing) in a temperature chamber. The basic premise is exactly what is pointed out in the article and you stress the board at the max operating conditions, and min operating conditions and observe failures (device failure - permanent/temporary, and thermal failure conditions - e.g. Tcase temps exceed max derated values per the device datasheets.
The key here is for a vendor...

Yep. Solder the inductor back on.
Take readings with the tv off.
Then take readings with the tv on. This may take several on-off cycles. Since some of them will likely decay since the tv doesn’t turn on all the way.
