Re: DDR2 for Intel and AMD ?
It could be high density memory. High density ram will work with AMD but won't work on Intel boards.

Re: AM2+ and AM3 socket ?
If the motherboard supports DDR2 memory then yes. If the motherboard uses DDR3 then it won't work. AM2 and AM3 processors are pin compatible, but AM2/AM2+ processors only support DDR2 memory because the memory controller is on the cpu.
For future reference
AM2/AM2+ = DDR2 only
AM3 = DDR2/DDR3
AM3+ = DDR3 only

Re: Bad RAM?
According to Wikipedia the nforce3 chipset is incompatible with vista.

Re: Bad RAM?
Tried to find the manual to this board, but could only locate the manual for the deluxe version. Anyway reading through the manual (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8N-E_DX/e1883_k8n-e_deluxe.pdf) on page 38 I noticed this:
"If installing the ATIĀ® 9500 or 9700 Pro Series VGA cards, use only the
card version PN xxx-xxxxx-30 or later, for optimum performance and
overclocking stability"
Don't know if your...

Re: Bad RAM?
1. Install the 1gb stick and set the ram speed to DDR333 in the bios.
2. See if vista will boot with that configuration.
If vista loads in that scenario you could conclude its a hardware configuration/limitation causing the problem. One thing to try if it is in fact the board teetering on the edge of stability with DDR400 is to increase the AGP voltage in the bios to the 1.6-1.7 range. This only works on motherboards where the AGP and northbridge voltage settings are linked though.

Hey mitchmaster any update on this?

Re: X1900 XT displaying artifacts
Well maybe I should have said I didn't use a guide when I did it. I just pulled all the through hole caps off the board, insulated the whole motherboard except the gpu and cpu areas, and stuck it in the oven set at 450F for 8-10 minuets. Nothing was burned, scorched, melted or otherwise damaged. I have fixed 4 xbox 360 motherboards using this method, and I haven't heard of any of them failing yet. Maybe I'm just lucky, or I'm not a total idiot?...

Re: X1900 XT displaying artifacts
I would bake it with the gpu and ram chips facing up myself. Also remember to insulate any parts of the card you don't want to reflow, and any plastic components on the card as well. Flux would certainly help, but is not required.

Re: X1900 XT displaying artifacts
The xbox 360 motherboard I reflowed in my oven has worked perfectly for five years, and has seen some heavy use during that time. Though I did replace the x-clamp mounting system on the heatsinks with bolts and washers. I can see how results could differ on a gpu as the ram chips have no heatsinks with any real clamping force....

Re: X1900 XT displaying artifacts
If the card is dead, and you don't have any other means to reflow it. You could try putting it in the oven at 385F (195C) for 5-10 minuets. I've had success in the past with graphics cards, and a few xbox 360 motherboards using this method. Here's a guide i found online if you would like to try it https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair+VGA+card+by+re-flowing+solder+on+the+board/2240Re: X1900 XT displaying artifacts

Pentium4 thank you for your offer! The motherboard has 4 ram slots, and I would gladly accept any ram modules you could send my way.

Re: Seasonic SS-350BS
Update!!!
System has been assembled and is up and running, but there were a few hiccups. The fist problem I encountered was the computer wouldn't post, but after some troubleshooting the cause was found to be a faulty ram module. Second problem was random restarts, and this was caused by a loose CPU retention bracket. CPU temperatures were fine so the retention bracket must have been causing a short somehow.
Both of these problems had me disassembling and reassembling the system multiple times before the culprit was found. After the...

Re: Seasonic SS-350BS
It'll be plugged in a surge protector, and It will most likely be on 24/7 anyway. If a surge or lightning strike happens it will probably be toast. The only time lightning has ever damaged any of my computer hardware was when I had dial-up. Lightning ran through the phone line and killed my modem, but the rest of the system was fine.

The Computer will not be powered off that often, and if the switch fails I have a few I pulled from dead power supplys I could replace it with.

Re: Seasonic SS-350BS
Oh, thanks for that clarification stj. So basically the power supply is in standby waiting for the motherboard to send the power on signal? If the power supply has a switch in back would turning that off keep the psu from being in standby?
