i've refubrished this unit by buying similar set with broken panel. initially i swapped the SS board but this does not help. the issue and source of bad signal on SOS line was A board.
later on i've bought another broken TX-P42GT50E to finally retire old S20 unit. this one had 12 blinks problem pointing to audio line. perhaps one of opAmps faulty as have signs of repairs around. i've not manage to fix it so i've give a second chance to old A-board from VT50 (or ST, i've already lost continuity). this time i've made some debugging...

the original 55" SS1 board IC153 is high speed switching gate driver JRC [URL="https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=143482&d=1477051732"]NJW4840[/URL] capable of 4A peak.
it's taking steering signal from A-board USL and drive the high voltage line through Q041&Q042 + Q051&Q053 switches to TPSS1.
the replacement 50" SS1 board IC152 is likely ROHM BD8694. hard to find any info about this pice. seems only refubr/fakes on aliex. not in production anymore?

i'm a user of old tx-p42s20e and recently was lurking for some replacement. after month of searching and reading forums the conclusion is that in reasonable price there is nothing better than old good panasomic plasma. so i've triggered hunt on some latest/highest models and found one for bargain. it's subject VT50 after lighting storm
from seller i've got info that lighting was quite close to his house, precisely right at neighbour, and additionally stb hdmi port was malfunction after it.
after transportation to my home the initial issue was...

good thread and thanks for many ideas how to fix this monitor.
i've own 2 of them and one was faulty. the fault was similar to some described here. it's started with picture distortions once and then, quite rarely to spot. it's slightly similar to degauss function in old CRT type monitors when display shatters or ghost picture artifacts. that usually start after some period of constant work ~1-2h sometimes 4h. it also does happen that it hang on standby and was not able to start, the power button was blue but not responding...
