Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Okay so 2 pads came off. I did my best to get some wire attached to the vias. I'm about 90% sure everything is soldered to the board. The tv still won't turn on. I'm probably going to have to buy a new mainboard unless anyone has any other suggestions. Is there a way I can tell if the wires are still connected to the vias? they were moving a bit when soldering. They are solid now....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
I'm using a pencil iron I ordered. The other side I soldered perfect. When I got to this other side however the solder started to bridge. When I tried to fix it the solder wouldn't melt. I spent hours trying to get rid of the bridging. No one in this town sells de-soldering wick so i just did my best. After I finally got rid of the bridges that's when I noticed that the pad was gone. I decided to take the chip back off and the pad on the same side on the far left started coming off too. I put it back in place. Is that enough? I'll try connecting the...

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Well I don't know how this happened. One of the pads came off the main board. Am I screwed?...

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Okay I got the EEPROM. The guy also suggested replacing the memory capacitors to prevent the problem from happening again. In the picture am I correct on the EEPROM chip and the memory capacitors? The capacitors that are on the board are larger than the ones I ordered....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
1 more question. Do you know if any of those pins can be bridged on the EEPROM? I just have a soldering gun and it's easier if I can bridge some of the pins. The last IC I soldered had pins that were able to bridge and made it much easier then soldering each individual pin.

For sure. Thank you guys for all your help. I'll get back to you after I replace the EEPROM. Might be a while though....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Is there anyway to test the EEPROM? I guess that's what my first question should have been. I've done a ton of research on these piece of **** tvs and EEPROM is a big one. Every I know who has had a Vizio has had problems. People need to get the word out on how crappy these tvs are.

Okay and they were fine. Where do I go from here?...

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Oh no it doesn't. It says tc90. The one to the bottom right that looks exactly the same has continuity so I just assumed.

Okay I tested F1 and F2 and they were fine. I decided to test some other fuses and I got no continuity on the one in this picture....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
OK I'll see if I have any but I doubt it. I have another vizio but different model so I tried putting that PSU in to see if it would work but the same problem. I know that PSU works because the other visio turns on. It has a different issue I'll probably post in another thread after I figure out what's wrong with this one.
Anyway here's a picture of the main board with the regulator in question circled....

Can't I use a paperclip to jump the psu

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
vizio doesnt have a schematic diagram of this main board otherwise i would try my best to diagnose it myself but I have little knowledge on this stuff so I need a pro to help me out.

Do you know how I could go about testing the mainboard to see what component is failing? Again I appreciate all your help....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Pin 11 is the small black wire, but I checked the white one(pin 10) anyway and pin 11 and when i hit the power button the voltmeter doesn't read anything on either of them. I'm about 90% sure it's a problem with the main board.Last edited by danman; 06-12-2015, 03:10 AM.

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Again the readings don't change when I hit power. The main board isn't turning on the ps.Last edited by danman; 06-12-2015, 12:02 AM.

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Sorry about that. I'm a newb. Here's a pic with the names.
The colours of the wires from left to right are
Black
Brown
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Purple
Grey
White
Black
Brown
Red
Orange
Not sure if that helps about the colours....Last edited by danman; 06-11-2015, 11:57 PM.

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
In order from left to right I'm getting roughly 5.6v on the first three pins then 0 after that. When I try to turn on the TV I get nothing on the 12 volt pins....

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Thank you guys for your help. Either way I'm not getting any kind of reading on this chip so either it doesn't get a load until the power supply has been turned on or the chip is no good. What would be my next step in diagnosing the problem with this tv?...

Re: Vizio regulator IC question
Also I'm new to testing regulators and all that. I've done low level surface mounts in the past on ICs but I don't know how I would go about finding the pinout of the IC in question.
