  • Re: Power Supply upgrade question

I finally got a reply today!

They said that if it's within the 3-year warranty, I can request RMA. It isn't, so I can't do that AND they closed the ticket so I can't comment.

I don't think this is going anywhere.

Soooo, I need a new one. any tips, I know there was one in here, any more?

Okay, thanks! I think I did everything correctly then. I created a ticket, got the e-mail, and I can log on with my e-mail and the ticket ID to check for updates on my problem.
I haven't gotten a reply yet though. I'm going to see if there is no other way to contact them.

Thanks again for taking the time to address this, Toasty! I appreciate it.

Oh and I forgot to mention: when I shut down the Pc, it automatically restarts a few seconds after shutting down, this happened at the same time the squealing started, so it's almost certainly related. Or is it?

Thanks for the replies, guys, very good info.

The reason I thought the power supply might not be powerful enough, is because I had unexplained power failures before. If I plugged in extra USB devices, like a memory stick or a wireless internet connector, some of my hard disks would drop out (not physically drop out of the casing, but drop out as in disappear from windows explorer and the disk management console ) .

I fixed that by getting a USB hub, which has its own power supply. About two months after that, the...

  • Power Supply upgrade question

    Hi all!

My power supply (SmartPower SP-450P) is generating a high-pitched squeal. I've tested all the other parts in my PC, and it's definitely the PSU. I also get blue screens in Windows XP SP3 and random power failures.
The unit is a little over three years old and I'm thinking of replacing it with a more powerful one, because these recent failures might have been caused by too much strain put on the unit.

Now, my question for you guys is, what should I look out for when replacing the power supply? Will it fit in my pc case? What's the wattage I need? etc....
