Vizio XVT553SV initial setup issue?
Last year a Vizio XVT553SV came into my shop after lightning strike. We fixed the set with a refurb mainboard from shopjimmy and customer had his set back within a week.
A few weeks ago this customer returned with his XVT553SV complaining that his power had flickered and his set was now in a boot loop. I plug it in, the vizio logo goes from amber to white for a minute or two and then solid amber, then you can turn it on but only vizio logo shows and after about 5 minutes the set recycles.
Customer didn't want repaired this time, just wanted an insurance estimate. Said it...

Re: Vizio xvt553sv Freezes on splash screen
did you guys figure this one out? I'm having the same problem. Is there a fix or should I just go buy a mainboard?

Re: 55 LED Vizio XVT553SV With backlight but no picture. Solved
I'm in the exact same boat. Set was behind a UPS during a storm but still went out.
Same as you, when I plug it in, it will blink amber and then white for a minute and then solid, I can then power the set and the backlight fires and I get a V logo. No button function, no menu from remote and can't turn off the set by button or remote.
I got this one for free and I'd like to repair it. Seems stuck on the bios splash but without any back end knowlege of these new "smart" televisions, I'm stuck watching...

Re: Samsung UN46C8000XF problems. With video.
I've yet to disassemble due to it's size and the fact that it's not a 24" monitor. I'd like to know if anyone has seen this on one of these 8000 series Samsung panels.
It looks like crosstalk but I don't have a clue where to even start looking. What do you think? Tcon? LVDS cable? SMPS? Mainboard?
Set functions but picture is horrible. Over ghosting, etc. I did factory reset but am not familiar with the service mode so I didn't play with any other settings. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem at this...

Samsung UN46C8000XF problems. With video.
A friend brought me this today and he's out of warranty. Since this is a 240hz LED high end set, I don't have a clue as to where to even start. Anyone seen this before?

Re: Samsung NPT4254 PSU and my dumb ass.
Just replaced CB855 and CB857 with correct 470uf 35v and nothing.
Today before I opened it up, you could plug it in and hear it cycling. I checked ESR on all caps and replaced those that were bad. I had a single bad solder joint on one of the fets that connect the heatsync rail and I did clean the terminal with kester and when I resoldered it all looked good.
Now I get less than nothing. Time to start from scratch I guess.

Re: Samsung NPT4254 PSU and my dumb ass.
Thank you so very much. Yes it's the HPT4254 with the 161/162 PSU.
I'm usually very studious when removing caps. Unfortunately, I pulled 2 and saw they were 1000uf 25v and just replaced all 4 with 1000uf 25v's.
You should have seen the look on my face when I looked through the caps and realized I'd missed the two 470uf 35v's.
Anyway, I'm going to desolder put in the right caps and hope this thing fires.

Samsung NPT4254 PSU and my dumb ass.
Please excuse me for being a dumbass. A friend brought me a Samsung NPT4254 I'm used to seeing these and I quickly saw that a couple of caps were bulging and one of the fets had a cold solder. Once I checked the caps, I just had 4 bad (high esr on my meter). These were CB855, CB857, CB819 and CB816.
I grabbed some new 1000uf 25V's replaced the caps and fixed the intermittent fet connection. I plugged the board back in and nothing. Not only does it not power cycle, it does nothing. I pulled the board again and after looking a second time I relize that 2 of the caps I removed should...

HP PL4260N plasma question.
I don't usually work on plasma's but a customer had an issue with this one and after he read the horrible reports on HP's support site he purchased a new LED set and donated this one to the shop.
Plug it in, blue light on main board lights up and then there are 2 clicks from what I'm assuming is the PSU and then a second blue led on mainboard lights up. After about 10 seconds I hear a third click from PSU and the 2nd blue light goes off.
I'm not turning on power or anything. The power button is red when plugged in, turnes purple after the two clicks and when last click...

BENQ FP91G+ questions
Hi there. Long time lurker, rare poster.
I have a benq FP91G+ that a customer donated today and I plugged it in and the LED turns on and stays constand, black screen. I assumed caps on powersupply so I pulled it apart and no swollen caps. I have an ESR meter so I checked all caps and they all test good as well.
My question is what else should I be checking on this monitor? I'm not a big monitor repair guy but I do understand general electronics and I have a Multimeter/oscope and ESR meter. Any direction I could go into?
It seems to me the backlight...

Re: Opinions on "ultra durable" Gigabyte boards?
I've been on the MSI bandwagon before, jumped ship and loved Asus for years. First Gigabyte board for me was the P35-UD3R which is a cheap no frills workhorse. That board powered my server at my business and still does to this day, 24/7 365 never an issue in 4 years. I have at home an HTPC with P35-UD4 Q9540 running rock solid for 2 years. EP45UD3R in my kids gamer never an issue. I've build 2 p55 i7 boards in the past 3 months without a single issue.
I'm sold on Gigabyte and the UD motherboards are of the...

Re: Seeing noise finding similar posts (whats this called?)
Could you please explain? I'm clear that you are referring to varnish to clean something but the answer was a bit vague for me. I think your on the right track thought and I'm really wanting to understand this problem. Also, the noise is not audible. Noise on the screen like when you have a bad monitor cable and it puts noise on the desktop....

Seeing noise finding similar posts (whats this called?)
I see monitors that come in and have what I can only describe as noise comming from the outer corners of the LCD's. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and what's the correct terminology for this and what causes it?
I fix my fair share of LCD's and after purchasing an ESR meter I've got a very high success rate but when I see one come in and it has this noise, which starts off not so bad but gets worse the longer the monitor is on, like it has a bad cap. When I first saw this problem, it was on a Xerox 17" flatpanel and I thought at first it was a cable issue, I didn't...

Re: Identifying cap manufacturer. M inside of a square
Great find. Thank you very much. I was somewhat concerned about these caps when I bought them but couldn't help myself with the price. I'll get the capacitance of some tomarrow and will now verify ESR before installing any. I've never reformed a cap but it's pretty straight forward. Would hate to skip it and do a bunch of work to only have to repeat it. BTW, I really would love some date info but havn't a clue as to where to find it.

Re: Identifying cap manufacturer. M inside of a square
How can I spot a fake? The caps look exactly as the picture and when they arrived I could tell that they were NOS, dust and all. All still in tape.. Anyway, I'll have a friend with a blue meter check some when he gets back from his Aspen vacation. lol
BTW, not to hijack my own post but I've been wondering how to pick up one of these. I can't seem to find any english info on ordering.
Anyone using one of these?

Re: Identifying cap manufacturer. M inside of a square
Wow, thanks for such a fast responce. Yes, the vent is shaped like a T and after the temp is an FF.
There's also OOPP markings in red horizontally. I needed some 1500uf 6.3v for a Dell poweredge server that became unstable and I found a 1000 of these for $25 NOS.
I hope these are low ESR and I really with I spoke russian so I could buy one of those micro 3.1 ESR meters.
