  • Re: HP (Asus) M2N68-LA only boots sometimes

Usually when I got a computer from scrap, first thing I would do is inspect the dust, if the dust seems like it got water on it, or once it dried up (and looks cemented), all those stuff will went to the wash tub with no questions ask.

It is something similar to deliding intel processor right ? if so after i delided it do i need to re-glue the metal cap ?

Is this method ok to use ?

  • PS3 CECHL03 overheat

Alright guys... I got a PS3 CECHL03 model with 80Gb HDD. For the first time I powered it on, after not more than 1 min the fan ramp all the way up to full speed and ~ 1 or 2 min it powered itself off, on top of the display it pop out an error saying temp is rising bla bla bla... then shut off. So i took it a part, found there is no dust obstructing the heatsink and air flow. Reapplied the thermal paste (i would't say the old paste is totally dried up, as it is still kinda sticky). Power it on and it remain the same, thermal error pop up and shut off by itself. What wrong with it guys ? Does it...

started a topic BenQ G900WD no power

    BenQ G900WD no power

I got this monitor, BenQ G900WD that does nothing when plugged into the mains, no response, no power whatsoever. So when i cracked the case open, the first thing i notice was a very faint smell of burned electronic smell, however on my initial attempt to power on does not burn, and no smell. On the back side of the power board, i notice there is some "dark" traces nearby the PWM chip (i suppose). On the front of the power supply board there isn't any bad cap based on visual judgement. I have check the power switch on switch with a multimeter and it seems to be fine.

  • Re: Dead Motherboard after storm

Usually once a LAN chip was shorted it become extremely hot to touch. The proper way to remove it is by desoldering it with hot air station / heatgun. Last time i ghetto remove it by using a lighter, yeap... i know that is a very very bad and wrong way to remove it. But well... i need to get the board working in no time. After i remove it and it still works.

Thanks all, by replacing the broken inductor on the PCB, i get the HDD to spin again. But the HDD was bad and it was clicking. Despite that but i appreciate it and learned something new

    @stj

Ouch... I still remember i had a couple of those drive around last time before i scrap those. Got to dig into my junk pile again and hopefully can find one with the same PCB. But anyway, can a bad inductor without casing cause the component that I mentioned to become overheat and drive not spinning ?

    @stj
Yea, that because the other guy stack those HDD, might as well accidentally scraped off the housing of those inductors. But what the proper way of testing inductors? I have tested it with my DMM and it still has continuity.

  • Possibly shorted component on Seagate HDD

I got a Seagate SV35 series 320GB HDD with me that doesn't spin when connected to the power supply, however I noticed there one component was very hot to touch, what is the component for ? I have lookup google for the component but I can't seem to find any detail on the component. The component is circled in yellow which I have uploaded it.

    Thanks in advance ...

Yeap, i got to agree with u, C2Q are still very capable for today standard, even core 2s are still very capable (at least for my own usage).

Do u heard any beep when u turn on your motherboard with no RAM insert ?

  • Re: Possibly shorted FETS GA-MA770T-ES3

Alright I figured out what wrong with the board, therefore prob is fixed.

The LAN chip been shorted before the board was passed to me, as always I will touch the LAN chip whenever I sees a board that don't turn on / POST, this is because in my country there are still many people using phone line DSL internet, and always thunderstorm would fry the LAN chip. I did touch the LAN chip, but it is just a very very faint warm, therefore I tought it was normal. Until I replace the suspected shorted Nikos FETs with another Nikos N channel...

  • Possibly shorted FETS GA-MA770T-ES3

Hi all, I got a Gigabyte GA-MA770T-ES3 AM3 board that I suspect has 2 shorted FETS as it become super hot to touch as soon as the PSU is switched on. I was unable to switch on the board, I am guessing the board has detected a short and don't allow me to turn on. But I was able to measure voltage on both of the suspected shorted MOSFETS:
    1) Highlighted in red, I was getting 4.9V (K3918)
    2) Highlighted in yellow, I was getting 0.4V (Nikos L1085DG)

There was a Nichicon HM(M) 6.3V 1000uf next to the MOSFETS, highlighted in orange. When I was doing troubleshooting, I got...

  • Re: Weird Abit i-45C motherboard

    ^
I am using Core 2 duo e4600 on this board, idle at ~39C and full load at ~60C.
I don't think that the case, because this board runs very weird before it was warm up, like say maybe 20-30min, after that it runs mostly no problem.

  • Weird Abit i-45C motherboard

    Hi all...
I have this Abit I-45C motherboard that do weird things... well, just like old car, if it wasn't warm up, it doesn't runs right. On cold boot, it won't give any display until I turn off the board and turn it back on. Now everything runs like normal, including passing memtest. After that, when I was attempting to install windows 7 on it, after windows finish loading the files, it would freeze at the windows 7 logo animation (before the logo even start appearing). After few attempt, it still freeze at the same place. Then I decided to boot with Ubuntu, amazingly everything runs...

  • Re: Fakes on ECS P4M800PRO-M V1.0?

I have no idea what are those rusty like goo, it wasn't complete dry, and it sticks. I don't have a ESR in hand, so I just use the capacitance function on my DMM to test those caps, although they are rated at 680uf, but I am getting a reading of closing to 1000uf, and it wasn't stable, like... fluctuate between 700-900uf. But as far as I can tell, those caps are bulged, it won't stays flat when I lay it against the floor.

Okay, thanks for the clarification, I will check those caps once again to confirm if it is made...

  • Fakes on ECS P4M800PRO-M V1.0?

    Hi all...
Salvaged yet another board from a local scrapper, those bad caps were hiding under the HSF, well yea... I missed it. These caps they looks fake solids to me, because it has the vents mark on them. All of them were vented and their guts were shoot onto the HSF. But amazingly the board still works and pass memtest86 like no issue. What is the manufacture of these caps ? I never seen one of these before other than the Sacon FZ series. I got a bag of random solid caps that I salvaged from other dead board, gonna put those over here....

Hmm... I don't quite get what u trying to say... because IIRC I read somewhere over this forum that Panasonic didn't sell the FL series to retail? They only sell it to the OEM ?...
