• Re: Windows 7 and 8th Gen Processors

My drives are not part of any RAID array. The only thing is the SSD drive used for IRST acceleration.

I have two HDDs. The one with C drive is not partitioned. The other one is partitioned normally in two parts. There is no dual boot or anything special besides IRST.

I do have an nvme disk, but I don't use it for anything except for storage for Waterfox and Thunderbird (hoping they will run faster on it).

Do you think that the BIOS is just getting reset when I upgrade bios versions? When I reinstall v10...

I know it's been awhile since I've posted here. I've been using this setup for about a year and a half now, and I experience some input lag every day - the only thing I can do is to shut down various programs and hope something triggers a release of the lag - it doesn't seem to matter what programs.

Also, the entire computer freezes up probably once a month or so - my three monitors are all frozen and no input does anything at all - I just have to shut it down cold and reboot it.

Also, I cannot upgrade the bios past...

Well, I enabled RAID in the BIOS and now the SSD drive appears.
AND, I've managed to get Intel Rapid Storage working with the SSD set for acceleration cache on my primary HDD. (to do THAT I had to delete the partitions on the SSD so that it was unallocated - this was necessary for iRST to want to use the drive for acceleration.)

Okay, so I've got my new graphics card and my three monitors work.

One thing still that doesn't work that I'd like to fix.
I have a 2.5" SSD drive that I want to install internally, but it never shows in Disk Manager, nor in Explorer, and Intel Rapid Storage says the disk is "incompatible". I've tried different SATA ports on the motherboard but keep getting the same error. However, if I take the SSD drive and plug it into my USB SATA disk enclosure, the drive shows up just fine.

You see, I was using...

I want to run three monitors, that's all. I'm not playing games. I just like to multitask. The second graphics card will "replace" the onboard graphics that I can't use.

I actually spent $60 on an MSI Geforece GT 710 - 2GB DDR5. A DDR3 version would have been $10 cheaper, but I figured I could get away with the extra $10, even though I only had permission for "about $50". That will suit me well enough for quite awhile,...

Ah - thanks for the clarifications. I want to add a second nVidia card, but don't care about linking them. I only want to use three monitors; I am not playing games.
I am thinking of getting this:

jiroy - actually, I already bought and installed this board, and am running an i5-8600k. I had to upgrade from my old Asus Z77 so I could try to salvage some data from an M.2 chip from a failed laptop. (this was the only reason I upgraded, actually; although I'm not disappointed to have done it!)

Now, I can't use the onboard graphics at all, so I disabled it in Device Manager to keep it from always looking for a driver that it will never discover.
So I have to rely on graphics cards. I have three monitors (so I have to buy...

Yeah, I just installed the chipset drivers that came with the install disk.

With a Windows hotfix, I enabled NVME support and it works, too.

All I am missing is the video driver, and something else that I don't know what it is (screenshot attached of my Device Manager).

I really want to use my motherboard graphics. If I downgrade the processor, would that work? What processor should I get then, with my new motherboard that will work with Windows 7?...

What's the best Intel processor I can use for Windows 7 x64 and an MSI 7370 motherboard?

• Windows 7 and 8th Gen Processors

Last week I upgraded my computer to an MSI 7370 with an Intel i5-8600k. I am running Windows 7 x64. I swapped out the motherboard and processor and kept the same HDD running my OS without having to reinstall anything.

However, I *do* have a problem. The on-board graphics requires a driver, and I keep reading that there are no drivers for Windows 7 for 8th gen processors. Here is another thread about...

Resetting BIOS passwords on newer laptops

Welcome to the New Laptop BIOS thread!

If you have a computer with a missing BIOS password, you may search the internet for solutions. There are lots of solutions for older laptops, but not for the newer ones. So I want to first summarize the old solutions and then query the community for new answers.

I have the this problem with a Dell Latitude e5520. I buy machines from ebay and rebuild them to distribute to our chapels (it saves a LOT of money). However, I have one with an admin password on the BIOS. There is no way I can complete Dell's change-of-ownership form,...

Hello, I joined this forum just to read this thread:

I have a Dell Latitude e5520 with a bios admin password that I can't get past. After scouring the internet I have little hope. Please PM me if you have a way to solve it.
