Re: Samsung Syncmaster 216bw w/pics
It's a rare occasion here believe me. I'm sure there will be more and more of these casualties showing up at the street level. People mostly still have the "replace it" attitude.

Samsung Syncmaster 216bw w/pics
Found this at the curb so I rescued it. This is the largest display I have worked on in a while. Tear down was nice and easy. 3 screws for the stand and three screws for the shell then pry at the bottom corners and wala.
Accessing the power board was also simple. Slide the main cover on one end to expose power lines. Unhook the remaining connectors and lift it up and three screws and the invertor board is free to work on.
Symptoms+Powers on with picture but flickering then black screen with blue power still lit. Turned it off and restarted it and picture came on...

Re: LG 17LX1R red standby turns green briefly then red again
Ok, so I tested the 2 diodes in question and the D102 gave a high reading on both sides. The other one had a high and low side. The D102 is a lt400 1n4007 and I'm having a hard time locating a source for it.
Also, I went a little too hot with my solder station and the PCB around one leg of the diode got a little flakey. Looks like it will settle down once I re-solder the new diode in, at least I'm hoping it will.

LG 17LX1R red standby turns green briefly then red again
Took this cute little TV/monitor apart today to find smoke residue inside over the area of the power caps. Clearly the caps are blown from these pics but I'm wondering if the previous owner kept the TV plugged in after realizing something was wrong and in turn causing more damage than just the caps.
Next the one of the main large caps is a brown area near unidentified components. A suspected problem it looks bad. I wanted to get the qualified opinions before sarting my shotgun repair....

Cap selection for NAD amp
The NAD C320BEE re-cap is progressing. I pulled the power supply board and removed all caps.
I was thinking of buying some off the big auction site but thats kind of a gamble and I need the lowest cost option. There's some Rubycon CE 105c 15000uf 50v on the bay from a reputable supplier item number is 360296451357. These are the only one's I found with a 33mm diameter which would be great since the ones that came with this amp were right up against some heatsinks.
Is mixing cap manufacturers on the power supply board not recommended? If so, should I use Panasonic...

Guess I'll do a section at a time good to know seanc. Thanks, glad you got yours going right. Without your post, I still would have been scratching my head.

Re: NAD C320BEE - JH Capacitors
In better lighting here are some pics of some of the noticable bad caps. The power board has a pool of dried brown gunk on it. One secondary cap has a bulging top. The main 15000 caps are also suspect. The main board has 3 or 4 caps with brown tint to them....

Re: NAD C320BEE - JH Capacitors
Well I got around to this finally. Opened it up and found that nearly every cap in my NAD C320BEE had these JH caps. Some of them randomly were brownish color (burnt). I plan on ordering all replacements using high temp FM caps. Funny thing is the caps on the power board all look normal. Looks can be deceiving I guess.
Shame on NAD for not going with reliable caps for this one.
Is there any other specs(besides size and lead) I should be aware of before ordering? Thanks

Re: Trutech PLV16190 picked off a trash pile
I'm going to remove the BR tommorow and search for a new one. The slow blow fuse I got from the Shack had a thin wire with a ball of solder in the middle. Now you got me wondering if I did more damage to the power board using the slow blo....

Re: Trutech PLV16190 picked off a trash pile
All right, back to the bench. +1234- is the order I used. R~B. I tried setting my MM to 200 ohms but couldn't get any reading. Only on the lowest setting which just has a symbol could I get a reading.
1-2= .58
1-3= .56
1-4= .54
2-3= .67
2-4= .58
3-4= .58
Thanks for helping....

Re: Trutech PLV16190 picked off a trash pile
Got some sloblo fuses at the shack put them in and theres smoke (fail). Couldn't see where the smoke was coming from cause I had to clam shell the unit to test but I assume the new fuse is now toast.
I'm reaching the limit on the $$ I want to spend to fix it cause I made the mistake of ordering some caps from mouser and they really overcharge on shipping.
How do I test the bridge rectifier? I have a meter.
Some pics. One is my solder questionable work. The other two are of what I think is...

Re: Trutech PLV16190 picked off a trash pile
Hi again, got all the caps in the mail today and I jumped on it and got them in just fine. Thanks. Now I noticed that the fuse is blown (never did think to check it from the start) and I have a few basic questions. Its a T3.15AL 250V fuse but I don't know whether to get slow blow or fast? Sorry for the freshman question.
