• Re: Sharp LC-70LE650U LED Voltage & Current per channel

How would hooking it up tell me which one has an open since they're in series?

Doesn't matter though because they all work, the panel is what was failed (more specifically one of the row/column IC's).

I want to use the LED strips for another purpose, and wish to drive them close to their maximum current... I just don't know what that is, and of course they'll get warm even when being driven within spec...

Yeah, I'm aware current limiting is needed, which is why I said the power supply board driving the LEDs would likely be current regulated... Perhaps I should have said a fixed current drive as the brightness changed... I have know idea what these LEDs are rated for as far as maximum current; am I dealing with 64 elements or 128, because it appears as though each of the 64 may be a "dual element" built into a single package, which would likely be in series, so then it'd be 128 elements... I want to get as much...

  • Sharp LC-70LE650U LED Voltage & Current per channel

I have a 70" sharp LCD and I am scrapping it for parts... Bad panel...

I'll probably sell the PS board, main, and t-con boards on eBay, but I salvaged the LED strip and backlighting components...

I sadly didn't think to take voltage or current measurements of the drive to the LEDs. I assume it is current regulated, adjusted with brightness. Can anyone give me any specifications on the maximum forward voltage and maximum current of an LED "channel" (64 LEDs per strip, called LED1, LED2, LED 3 on the PS board).

    Thank you!!!

definitely the flexible pcb... Impossible to purchase/replace?

Bad news, one of the ICs in the flex board/cable has "darkening" at one end... I'll try to get a picture... I realize this would be extremely difficult to replace due to the alignment required, but is it even possible to remove the flex PCB from the glass without damaging the glass?

budm is right if the ICs he's talking about are in the "film" ribbon wire that connects the glass to the rigid PCBs that run along the sides of the panel. The PCBs along the sides are considered part of the panel and are very likely an impossible part to procure individually, let alone replace one.

I am just going to be VERY hard to convince that it's a dead left side panel, UNLESS it died "the rest of the way" after taking ownership of it (free). As I said, it worked for me for 30 minutes the other night...

  • Re: LC-70LE650U Problems, 2-short, 5-long

Well... I am nearly certain... when it was operating, it appeared flawless... It's possible there's a very small issue behind one of the parts of the frame of the panel itself. I have removed the plastic front bezel, and the left side black aluminum side of the panel. If I recall, I can see the lower-left corner of the glass itself all the way to the top on the left side, and there are no cracks, no chips, etc... I have not taken off bottom or top part of frame yet. I am hesitant to take apart too much of the frame of the panel, at least...

    @budm

You think the Sharp has ICs like that too? Are those parts that can be easily obtained? It seems like boards are all over the place on the web, internal cables don't seem to be quite as easy to find from what I've seen on other threads...

From reading other posts of yours in other threads, you seem very knowledgeable on repair... By chance do you know the answer to my question about the outputs from the t-con board being the same pinout for each half of the screen, so that I could drive the right side of...

That is kind of my suspicion as well (left side panel issue), which is why I took the left side of the metal frame off the panel (carefully, as taking apart the panel itself obviously get's risky regarding structural integrity of it)...

I am hoping that if it's a panel problem, then maybe it's a short somewhere in the ribbon wire running around the panel along the bottom and up the left side since the integrity of the glass looks fine, and it seems like a random short within a panel that isn't cracked wouldn't be a common occurence,...

I posted the problem/symptoms in great detail on this thread, which I didn't see until just now... https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=36978&page=2Re: LC-70LE650U Problems, 2-short, 5...8&page=2

Add me to the list with the 70". I just started another thread prior to seeing this one, but perhaps I should add a link to this thread and we should stick to this one since it's a similar issue. I say similar because I have seen symptoms that are slightly different...

I have a few more things to add... My set first started (with the previous owner prior to giving it to me) showing horizontal banding on the full screen, like "shadowed" bands across the image... Then, it went out and started the error code....

  • LC-70LE650U Problems, 2-short, 5-long

Before I get into the details and symptoms (the main one is blink code 2-short, 5-long; related to panel power from what I have gathered). I have a straightforward question to aid my troubleshooting... Are the "sides" of the panel identical with regards to signal pinout of the ribbon wires between the panel and the LCD control unit or driver board, or the t-con board as I guess it's also called... I am not new to hobbiest-level repair, and I am an EE, so hopefully with the help and experience of the experts on the forum, I can get this thing up and running!

    As I said, before...

  • Re: Sharp LC-40LE810UN question

I am new to the board... I have a 70LE650U that was just given to me by a neighbor... I am an EE, so I'm not a noob when it comes to electronics tinkering...

Before I go into too much of the details of what the unit is (and isn't) doing, should I continue this thread, since it is "currently" giving me a 2-5 code, or should I start a new thread since this one is quite old? I say "currently" because it's now showing a slightly different behavior than the first day I got it. It was working, but after 10 minutes it had...
