    thanks for the reply stj... I pretty much had forgotten I had posted this. I've since purchased a rebuilt PSU a while back. Still seems to be working strong.

    godonr has a great photo of exactly what I need that he posted back in May. It appears that the position might be Q1 from his photo. Mine is a little burnt along with the leads. I still can't make out the ID markings even with intense zooming. godonr, might you be able to read the surface mount transistor right next to R4?...

    Huh? I thought this thread was about repairing the bad caps on an Apple iMac PSU. I simply have a question about a certain component on that exact same PSU. Apple doesn't release any schematics so I'm stuck trying to guess what that SMC transistor is. I've also run into the same bad caps and have replaced them on the top side. I just thought someone might take a quick peek at the underside of their board and let me know the ID of this so I can dig up specs and track one down.

    Hello. I'm in the process of repairing the PSU on my son's G5 20" imac as well. This is after Apple replaced both the main logic board and then this PSU a little over a year ago. Anyway, it failed again and just wouldn't power up yesterday. I pulled it apart and did find three really swollen/leaking caps. I've removed them and will go grab some later today. The problem I'm having is that there is a burnt SMC on the back side of the board in the middle. I can't figure out it's specs nor can even figure out it's exact placement. I've attached...
