  • 3M monitor model PD-70Fa

    I had two of these units in use, and one failed....I tried to get it working, but to no avail and just put it on the shelf and put the other one into service.

    The other one failed recently, so i thought id try a little harder on this one....

    The symptom was that the monitor would not start...an intermittant problem, but got progressively worse with time...these units run off a 12V 2A wall supply...internal 5, 12 and 3.3 voltages were present....I was making voltage tests at each electrolytic when i noticed that the monitor started....turns out I shunted an open surface...

    ive had one of these (LG 1717S) for a while and couldnt figure out the problem.....unit would intermittantly not turn on...power supply would come up, but the power switch would not do anything.....

    except occasionally....it would fall into a "groove" and work for a while....sometimes after playin with it...couldnt tell if I was actually doin anything....

    I used an esr meter to find the worst caps, none of which were really horrible, and it turned out that a small cap on the line side of the switching supply...
