Re: Bad caps? Phillips HiFi
Thanks mariushm, very interesting! Is it common for the silicone to dry up like that? What could cause it?
Well, after a full 2 hours worth of painfully scraping and wiping with acetone (this stuff does NOT come away easily!!), I ended up breaking one of the surface mounted components clean off
So disappointing!
I've tried emailing Philips for a replacement board, but I'm pretty sure the answer will be a No!

Bad caps? Phillips HiFi
Hi all
I have a Phillips hifi here which has intermittent sound. I can hear music through earphones with no problem. It also has a second station connected via wifi which works fine, but the main base station doesn't play music through the speakers. Sometimes absolutely nothing comes out. Sometimes it plays for varying lengths of time (from just a split second to a minute). I can't see any external signs of loose connections.
I opened it up and went straight to (or what I think is) the amp board to check the caps. None of them look bulged but there looks like a resin around all the...

Re: New caps, but still no power (Dell 3007wfp)
Right, so I replaced the 4 small caps and now when I power on (not plugged into PC yet) the screen flashes red, blue, green, white... I think this is normal for when DVI isn't in. So I'm guessing that it's now fixedThanks for the help, stj!
Budm, I checked the DCV on the filter cap. It fluctuated a little at the start of the reading, then levelled out at 374V. Is this ok?

Re: New caps, but still no power (Dell 3007wfp)
I didn't ever see any leaks from anywhere on the board. Will have a double check there when I get back tonight though.
I currently don't have any measuring devices to check the main cap. I think it's time to invest! Can I get away with getting any old cheap meter or is there something specific I should look out for/get?
Cheers the for replies so far,

New caps, but still no power (Dell 3007wfp)
Hi all
I seem to have a bit of a stubborn monitor that doesn't want to fix. I'd love some help if anyone can provide it.
I'll start with the symptoms - plug in but no power LED or anything.
Opened up, caps looked fine but I thought I'd replace them anyway. I didn't bother with the big'un or the four little'uns near the centre of the power board (see video / should I have?)

Basically, after doing so, nothing has changed. I still get a noise when I plug the...

Re: Dell 3007wfp No Image
Hi there.
This is my first post. Sorry to bring up an old thread here. I just wanted to start by saying thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. It's helped me a lot!
I'm just replacing the caps on my power board too. I'm wondering if anyone has an answer to a question that was asked in this thread a while back:
Thanks (I hope someone see this)
