Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Well, I think I'm giving up. Tried again, removed battery, nothing. Put in new battery, nothing, not even the blinking a light. Checked all my settings and plugs.......
I tried, had fun, learned a little.
What parts can I sell? I know RAM is worth a couple dollars on ebay. Anything else valuable or boat anchor it???
Thanks for all your help, input and patience. Roger

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
I did take the battery out any time I was soldering. I will try to start up without a battery and I'll go by a new battery tomorrow. It uses CR2032 watch battery.
I'll report back soon. Roger

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Turns out I did do that, remove the battery for about 30 minutes, not realizing the purpose.
Sounds like I screwed???

Thanks PCBONEZ.
All they have on them is a funny(egyptian looking) M in a box.
How do you reset the CMOS??

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
I did. I removed all cards that were previously installed.(video, modem(remember those?)). Even tried with floppy unpluged(both power and cable). Still same thing......
About the only caps not replaced were the few Ruby's and the Gold/Black ones next to the CPU.

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Well, Changed the power supply. Back to step one. Everything powers on but hard drive light blinks 4 times and thats it.
Any other suggestions?
Had fun doing it, think I did okay since the computer is back to where it started....

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
I'm Back!
Okay, completed the Cap swap. Assembled. Nothing... power up light would come on, fans run.... nothing else.
Removed board again, checked that I got all caps in correct placement (+ / -), checked some of my soldering, touched up a couple joints, assembled again, this time.... Lights came on, fans and hard drive light started flashing with 4 blinks. Same condition as when I started last week......
Then, I turned it off, turned it on again....... nothing except fans run then fans switch off and main...

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Thanks for the input, this is my first board to try this on. I've got all parts in and been reading all I could on this site about the right way and practicing taking out caps on old boards (modems, etc) to try to get the hang of it. We'll see..........

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Thanks again, and sorry for beating a dead horse.....
See if I got this right.... I dont know if website means much but thought I would throw it in. I couldnt find any 10v that you listed on Mouser. Would be nice to get all from one place. Any other ideas to get the 10v from Mouser? I found some, but not the Panasonic FM one you suggested.
These are all from Mouser Electronics
G-Luxon 6.3v 470uF ---- Nichicon UPW0J471MPD 6.3v 470uF
KZG 6.3v 1000uF ---- Nichicon UHN0J102MPD...

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Okay, after re-looking... those 4 you marked with a RED line, are 16v, Matsushita's
The 5 with BLUE lines are 6.3v and I dont have theone you marked with a GREEN line.
So, replace all KZG's and Matsushita's? Where do I buy these and what watt iron should I use. I've read somewhere 75 watt or higher.
Thanks!

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Opps... Not sure which 4 your talking about. I found one 16v on the board that is a Rubycon, others are KZG and some small fat black ones with no name, a 10v KZG. Most on the board are KZG's

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
They are all the same brand and have a funny "M" with a box around it.
THe 4 furthest away are .... part # 62IVRP 6.3 volt, 1500 uF.
The other 5 are ..... part# 65IIRP 6.3v 3300uF

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Okay,
The Yellow Cap shows no name other than a "line above an F and a line below" it's size is 6.3v 680uF there seems to be a part #? M 5D53u
The other one is a small brown one, a G-LUXON 6.3v 470uF with 624D(M).
That help?

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Update....
With the mobo out, I can see the Caps you circled, most are KZG 6.3v 1000uf, they are all the brown ones. Others need replacing?
My board is the K8NGM2-H MSI-7207 VER:2.0 N1996

Re: MSI-7207 (K8NGM2-L) version 1.0
Okay, here is a photo of my board. Hopefully one of the links will work.
What Caps do you recommend and where can I buy those? Radio Shack or a website.
Any suggestions before I start. I've soldered many times before but never on a motherboard. I have a 20/40 watt Pencil style iron or the bigger gun style but has fat tip, so dont think that will work.
Thanks again, Roger
