Philips LCD TV 42PFL5609D/30 Blown Fuse
My Philips LCD TV went dead the first time after 5 years of service. After opening it up, I found that the fuse was blown. Instead of putting a new fuse, I used a 100W lamp connecting as the fuse. The lamp was brightly lit. Then I disconnect everything from the board and powered it on, the lamp was still lit brightly. A visual inspection did not find any cracked or burnt components, nor any bulged electro-caps. Using an ohmmeter to measure the AC end showed around 1K ohm and 2K ohm when the probes were reversed. Testing the legs of each component with the ohmmeter did not find any dead-short....

I studied electronics engineering at college in the 1970s, while at that time my hobby was to build and fix gadgets with my soldering iron. During the working years, I moved to pick up some other hobbies as my work is very much unrelated to electronics.
Recently something triggered me to build small amplifiers for me to listen to music with my headphone and I found this forum quite amazing about the knowledge on caps.
I hope to share my limited experience with all members and to find pleasure with the hobby that...
