Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
I ran a very low CFM fan over different boards to keep them cool and found the Main Board beneath a heat shield is getting to hot and shutting it down. It seams a finned block of metal had afoam strip on it to protect the board... It was holding heat. I removed it and the TV stays on. I'm still monitoring it. I will send a picture.

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
Also the three steel bars get exceptionally hot on the back of the power board. Like they'd burn you. I'm pretty sure the for heat dissipation. But should they get that hot?

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
I fixed some solder and cleaned the board. TV still shuts down, but I am able to access the invertor now when it's powered up. Any further testing?

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
Well I can see alot of bad solder joints, what I also see is what look like something was spilled on the board. What should I use to clean it and should I focus on fixing all the solder joints or getting a new board?...

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
These 3 are of the back of the power board. I see no compromised solder but I did see too slightly discolored spots....

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
I'm gonna hit the power supply and video boards with a hair dryer tonight, but the invertor board is buried. Is there a good way to ohm test it?

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
I agree with the Thermal Diag. While working the BL On reads 3.27V DC.
Failed it reads the same.

Re: Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
Its almost impossible to test the invertor board on this unit. The Power Supply and Video Boards bolt to the back panel and the Invertor Board bolts under the panel. Testing while powered up is going to be a task. Taking new pictures now, because I realized that some were terrible.Last edited by Thorsbolt; 05-26-2015, 09:24 AM.

Sanyo DP46849 Backlight Issues
Picked up a 46" Sanyo from a needy family. Works great for 20 mins or so, then backlight goes out. Still have sound. Upon restarting picture shows back up for 5 min then screen cuts out. If I let it cool down it will stay on longer. Could this be CFL's wearing out and drawing to much juice when warmed up. Let me know where to start and I'll post any pictures requested.

Re: Samsung LN55C650L1FXZA No Backlight
No problem, it should be a requirement.

Also I Guess I have a good spare invertor board for one of these sets. Good for testing against.

Thanks again for everyone's help. Soldered the new capacitor in this morning and if fired right up. So many people fix their problems with your help and never reply that it's solved. I think that's ridiculous. So thanks again.

Re: Samsung LN55C650L1FXZA No Backlight
I've got it de-soldered and checking a specialty electronics store tomorrow. I bought my last capacitors there.

Re: Samsung LN55C650L1FXZA No Backlight
Does it need to be a Polyfilm box capacitor or will any 0.47uF 450V +/- 10% work? I've got around a .69" lead spacing and I can find them close but I'll have to make one work.

Re: Samsung LN55C650L1FXZA No Backlight
Thanks Nicholas and Budm, I'll try testing and likely replacing that cap. I can't believe I didn't notice it before. Sometimes you just need a second pair of eyes on things. I'll post an update regardless of outcome.

Samsung LN55C650L1FXZA No Backlight
I have a 55" LED Samsung I brought home from work to fix for an old folks home because the residents watch it regularly. It has sound but no picture unless a flashlight is shined into the screen. I immediately thought the invertor board after a little testing. I replaced this but got the same results from the screen. Capacitors look good without testing. I replaced bad caps on a Samsung before that were bulging. I'm just starting to fix TV's as a hobby, I've fixed two now, but this one is eluding me. What should I try next. Attached are photos of the power board, video board, and invertor...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi,
My names Johnny and I'm an avid do it yourselfer. I've fixed a couple lcd tv's courtesy of bad caps. My own 32" Samsung got new Capacitors soldered in by myself and my brother in law got an invertor board. I'm a nursing student that was born into logging and diy mechanics. My interest in electronics came from Auto mechanics school and tearing apart everything I owned as a kid. I joined to gain more knowledge and fix a 55" Samsung for an old folks home pro/bono. Problem is I replaced an invertor board and it...
