Re: Vizio vt420m sound issue
The original problem with the set was the picture would start to get some artifacts over time and the system would eventually reboot itself. I sent the board in for swap/repair (it was swapped for a rebuilt board). The video seems OK now but the audio is having issues. I noticed the brown smoke mark on the audio header and was of course curious about it. No caps appear bad on the main board or the power board.
Anything I can try to check with a meter or pics I can take to try to help troubleshoot?

Additional tests, tried different sources/inputs with same issue on all.

Vizio vt420m sound issue
The above TV will work OK for a while, 10-60mins or so. Eventually, it will develop
+ an issue with sound where the sound seems to get broadcast twice kind of like an echo. The issue will slowly build up worse and worse. At these times I also see a slight flickering of the video but otherwise the video seems fine. I see on this refurbished main board there is some brown discoloring on the audio header (and the plastic looks slightly melted). Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue? I've checked the power coming from the power supply board and all lines looked right from there.

Re: Vizio vt420m - Powers up/down and logo on screen but no picture/sound from inputs
I'll test again to double check the readings.

So u103 might be the only bad VR?

The close-up pic in post #3 shows the pin readings for all three VRs. The text in my post is just incorrect formatting, sorry.

Here are some close-ups of the three VRs on the main board that I have tested with their readings.
Please see attached pics.
Thanks.
EDIT: I did test the voltages coming out of the power board and all rails checked out OK. (5v, 12v, 24v x 2)

Vizio vt420m - Powers up/down and logo on screen but no picture/sound from inputs
Hello folks,
I've been reading through threads on the Vizio vt420m TV and general troubleshooting and would like some input on what I've found so far. In checking the voltage regulators on the main board I think I've found two that are not putting out correctly. One VR does appear to be correct. Should I just try replacing the two that seem bad or should I check other components given the current level of functionality that the set has (read below)?
I can power on the set either from the remote or from the side controls. It will power up and show the Vizio logo on the...Last edited by Cyklopz; 03-14-2015, 04:13 PM.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello I'm Chris,
I've got a Vizio TV that just stopped displaying a picture and I'm trying to repair it instead of buying a new Tv. I live in central KY, US. I'm a long time computer geek and reasonably technically/mechanically able but I'm not an electronics tech. I do have a multimeter and a simple soldering gun. I'll dig around some and then maybe post info on my TV issue.
Thanks folks!
Chris
