Re: Acer aspire 7520 power problem
your black dvm lead may be in the wrong hole for measuring ohms & voltage... although some voltages do seem legit.. that 10A hole is usually for current only. normally you'd use the COM hole for those measurements. too fuzzy to read the meter writing from here. just something to check.

Re: Acer 4530 - powers on then shuts off 2 seconds later
Nope - no post. no bios writing. tried three different external adapters - all good. no difference.
Nature of the problem: Press power button.. blue LEDS do their 'go around thing' for about 1.5 seconds ... fan makes brief blowing noise .. no bios writing on screen ... unit shuts off. charging of battery & charging LED seem to function correctly. changed CPU. changed memory. disconnected all device loads - that is: hard drive, CD rom, modem, wifi, etc. DC jack seems good. same problem regardless of whether screen...

Acer 4530 - powers on then shuts off 2 seconds later
Acer aspire 4530 - powers on then shuts off 2 seconds later.
This seems to be a fairly common problem among many manufacturer's laptops described on the web.
Anyone know the cause / fix?

Re: Acer Aspire 4520 Power Prob - acer experts please.
Hi, I now have the same exact issue with an aspire 4530. Initially had nothing except the battery light indicator (working / charging) .. no turn on at all.. The Ti TPS51116 was bad - replaced it & now I have this exact behavior.. press power button .. lights up for 1 second and then off .. same behavior regardless of whether AC or battery... most of the fets & caps seem to check good.
so:
"it's the mcp76m soldering problem.."
Is this pretty much the next step 99% of the time?...

Re: Acer Aspire 5732Z dead
correction.. "'power good' input to the 51116" ..
should read 'output' .. this chip monitors itself.. i believe mine measured Low, which is then a problem indication here..

Re: Acer Aspire 5732Z dead
hi,
like mr ablacon64 said, you're going to have to determine if the stand-by 5V & 3V are there. if they are, then go on to check for the 1.8V standby possibly generated from the buck converter in a TPS51116 pwm power chip (for acer). check the common output line of the hi & lo power fets controlled by the 51116. i'm dealing with one of these right now [an acer 4530] where the lower mosfet surface looks 'bubbled / over-heated' & it's missing the 1.8V 'always on' source. the 'power good' input to the 51116 appears correct but there...

Re: Dead Thinkpad R30 and R31 series.
i have an acer aspire 4530 with very similar symptoms.. hmmm. wonder what these mobos may have in common. like perhaps the embedded power controller? ... WPCE775C? this thing is only 2.5 years old.. very strange.. 5v & 3v standbys are there .. still checking other test points. i wonder why they singled out that cap.. is it under-rated for that spot?

Re: PHILIPS 32" LCD 32PFL7332D/37 WILL NOT POWER ON!
you might have to unsolder a leg on that resistor to check it.
i'm seeing blue grey grey on those .. not red red orange..
probably something in parallel.
it could also be intermittent.Last edited by 12ax7a; 04-26-2010, 11:22 AM.

yeah well, we can see who the tube guys are here...
'unfortunately' it gives our age away a little bit - but really that was part of the joke in using that for a username.. it also tells me who is into guitar amps, radio, hi-fi, etc... i always say there's...

Re: PHILIPS 32" LCD 32PFL7332D/37 WILL NOT POWER ON!
a couple of things here. in photographs, lighting & the lens can play tricks so no way to be sure but i've reposted a couple of your pics with 2 circles of interest.
one has a circle around what appears to be a couple bloated-top caps.
the other has a circle around what appears to be a burnt resistor.
you'll have to check them in person to see if that's real.
(with the power off that is - remember, death is permanent)....Last edited by 12ax7a; 04-26-2010, 08:54 AM.

Re: Problem with Viewsonic VG920 lcd monitor
yes, i can tell you first hand that after going through a bunch of these repairs last fall that the supervisory cpu reset chip causes more problems than they're worth. when they fail (and they seem to fail easily - possibly a bad batch and / or possibly a misunderstood design) they end up holding the graphics cpu in 'eternal' reset. the schematic for these monitors would indicate that acer's june grad engineers got confused over the meaning of logic active low / high.. or someone was just sleeping on the job when they...

Re: LTV32 w1 westinghouse tv
as an added note to the marked-up picture.. there appears to be another transformer lead: silk-screened as "6" right above #5 which was not circled. it has a smaller pad than leads 5 & 2 and could just as easily become a problem.

Re: LTV32 w1 westinghouse tv
yeah, that's pin 5 ... mine looks fine but this all brings up a great point. these transformers are big & heavy and under heat & stress they will expand and attempt to pull their leads up from the pcb a bit. if the solder job is crappy then you're gonna run into this sort of thing. i think you just saved a bunch of people some work in the future. thanks for coming back & posting your find.

Re: LTV32 w1 westinghouse tv
hi,
i used your photo to mark out the T1 leads in yellow (from what I can see). mine appear to be good. BUT, the one I circled in red (one side of capacitor C310) is definitely bad (cold) and this would explain exactly the type of behavior that many have seen after a 20 minute warm-up /heat-up cycle.
was yours one of the joints circled in yellow? either way, that was a great find. if this is typical, and it just might be, then the thing that caught Delta "off-guard" was the crappy wave-soldering baths that were...

Re: CTX S762G - Some Questions...
i happened to be 'perusing' some old threads and looked at this one.
i could be totally wrong here & it could just be the photo playing tricks but R92 in the 'Logic Board 3' picture looks blown.
