  • Re: Never expected this to work

I was certifying the structured cabling at a collage a few years back and from one of the art studio pc labs that every point was over 200m with UTP... It did 'work' but the switch wasn't happy about it. Nor were they when we pointed out it at least needed re-routing to a nearer cab, taking a more sensible route, and hoping it came into spec, or possibly installing a small cab in the lab.

  • Re: Replacing KZG's

Yeah, fully aware... just a bit overly cautious as I'm chasing what was a intermittent thing that I might not see for days at a time... or on the other hand some days make me want to throw the keyboard through the window as it hung on every minute or for minutes at a time.

I'm quite happy with its frequent 2GHz trips... but normally it does it by dropping the multiplier to 6x, my FSB doesn't move....

Erm the 8800 has never missed a beat until recently where it wouldn't wake up gracefully from when the computer was put to sleep about...

  • Re: Replacing KZG's

right so I've replaced the thermal putty with some as5.

I haven't noticed any 'absences' since changing the caps... however I've left occt running today to try to check the stability and looking at the graphs has me slightly concerned...

What's with the frequency drop at ~210 mins?

For the past 2 hours I've been running prime and according to occt my bus speed has dropped to 290Mhz during that time.

occt does claim my cpu temps are all 15 degrees higher then I believe they are. (HW Monitor 53, occt 68)...

Just so you know... Rubycon ZLH, the ones you linked to aren't suitable.

ESR is double that of KZG.

Right I'm going to leave this here to help anybody else...

After having trouble finding suitable electrolytics I ended up swapping out for polys.

  • Re: Replacing KZG's

Currently my northbridge is sat at 38.2oC, southbridge at 40.8.

    CPU VRMs are 39.8 (average)

The northbridge was in the region of "stupidly hot" before I did the mod. 70+ at times I'd estimate.

Core 0 has always sat a couple degrees hotter then the other 3. I'm going to load it back up and check the temps under load....

I got a bios with the correct microcode injected, I think. If you wouldn't mind checking :

    So.... recapped

Seems stable... I have ran IntelBurnTest on Very High stress level and it passed.

Currently have FurMark running and all seems fine.

Is there any way of specifically loading up the board to induce failure if the caps are not up to par?...

Having a look at wurth caps.. the 470 you gave was 10mm? Had a look on RS and they have stock of wurth caps.

Would it be possible for you to check these are sensible before I buy please.

Thanks a lot, I had looked at them I didn't notice that they were awaiting delivery but as I haven't seen or know anything about wurth elektronik (I'm possibly showing myself up there) so I'd practically discounted them...

would they safely go in the place of of my 820s though? I thought they were too low voltage... but I don't know if they would likely be on 5 volt or 3.3... or lower?

I have AHCI listed in my bios but I haven't used it yet I was going to use it when I get my ssd, but thats been put on hold since it has been playing up.

Right... I've just cannibalised a few old motherboards that I've been keeping for.... some reason.... I kept all the caps that I thought I'd heard on here, I have :

    Fujitsu Yellow and black FP?
    5 x 4v 560uf

    Rubycon MBZ
    3 x 16v 1800uf
    12x 6.3v 1500uf

  • Re: Replacing KZG's

    thanks...not in rs or farnell....

how would I go about identifying suitable replacement polymers?

or a source of any ultra low esr capacitors that supplies the UK?

The only ones i've found so far are farnell and I could have some 1000uF nichicon hm... US stock... £0.94 for the capacitors... almost £20 shipping and handling, and that's not even dealing with the actual faulty capacitor, only 5 of the 13 KZG's on the board. They don't have any lower capacitances listed even though they are in the range.

    I'm...

  • Re: Replacing KZG's

they do seem to fit the bill regarding esr and ripple. (esr and ripple are an exact match for 5/6)... I'd seen them suggested on here but as I can't find them for sale anywhere, I'd discounted them.

Googling for them only seems to bring up the news of their discontinuance, ebay amazon and ali-express.

Any help with sourcing these or finding other suitable caps?

    started a topic Replacing KZG's

    Replacing KZG's

I posted in the asus-mobo forum a few day ago and received no response so I thought I'd re-ask in here as I'm unsure if I've asked the wrong questions or in the wrong place.

I have a ASUS IPIBL-LB running an intel xeon e5450.
It has started to hang... and then recover after a while.

It has 13 KZG's on it, one of which has bloated/vented.

Having read on here that KZG's are not the best I have been searching for a replacement for all of them.

(again, excuse the typo of KZG/NZG)

    reading on here has...

  • Hp asus ipibl-lb

Figured I should make my own thread..

I have a ASUS IPIBL-LB running an intel xeon e5450.

It has started to hang... and then recover after a while.

Had a quick look at the board and found a bad cap next to the northbridge, an NCC KZG 6.3V 820uF

Reading on here it would seem KZG's aren't held in the highest regard so I figure I better get them all out... took my board out the case (no mean feat, the board is full and the case it tiny) and looked it over... found several KZG's

    (excuse the typo of KZG/NZG)...

The sanyo caps are green and gold which I think I remember means they are low esr, but I'm honestly unsure.
