Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power
My problem is similar to BtBs problem
Not sure which board in my HG281D needs caps. For a long time it took many presses of the on button before the screen came on. Then one day the power went out and when it came back on the monitor did to. Apparently the on-off system remembers the last state. This lead me to use a power cord with an on-off switch so I did not have to use the monitors switch.
The monitor takes over 15 seconds to come on. And the longer it is off the longer it takes to come on. But once on it...

Powering on OLD stereo

I have a Pioneer SX-1050 receiver from 1976. It has not been powered up for at least 15 years. I have heard of a few ways to start it up.
1. Turn it on and hope for the best.
2. Plug it into a variac and crank up the voltage slowly
3. Plug into a current limiting device like a Christy tester.

I don't think number 1 is wise. I also hear solid state devices don't like variacs.
Not having a Christy what else are my options? The caps are 39 years...
