• Re: Benq FP731. Weird Protection mode. Benq 48.L8202.A00

As always, you were right. I re-checked my work. At some point the wires going to the lamps failed. I re-tested using a set of known good lamps and found that both inverters work fine. ...

  • Benq FP731. Weird Protection mode. Benq 48.L8202.A00

    Hello everyone,

I have a set of Benq FP731 monitors. Both of them had the classic problem of going dark after a second or two. Both have a Benq 48.L8202.A00 power board. I was able to fix one by replacing all the C5707s and a fuse. I did the same repair on the second one but it is giving me problems. The upper two (right side) transformers seem to be causing some sort of overload. But its not due to a transformer(s) itself.

This is the story so far: If I only plug in the lamp cable for the upper transformers (T753 and T751, to the RIGHT in the first image) the screen...

  • Re: Heres' an easy to use CCFL and Inverter test kit for LCD repairs...

I have not always had the best of luck with setups like this. I made a lamp tester out of a PC case CCFL power supply just like that one. I noticed that mine had no problem running failing lamps without turning off. The lamps would run via the test power supply, but the monitor's power supply would trip right away.

  • Re: Sceptre X20G-NagaIII Monitor Not working

This looks close to the same power supply used in Gateway FPD2185W screens. Is it a Samsung LCD? I heard that most of the gateway screens died in under 3 years of use... mostly due to bad caps. I would try replacing all but the two large caps as a start. I also noticed that they sell inverter transistor kits for the FPD2185W. There are 4 of them on the under side of the board. On the gateway I think its U301, U302, U304, and U305.

Here is a thread for the Gateway FPD2185W

  • Dell 19" SE198WFPf SE200WFPf

I had luck fixing a Dell 19" wide (SE198WFPf SE200WFPf) using the following info from another thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6650&page=2&pp=20&highlight=R852

Unit had no power up at all.

  • Re: Best caps to keep in stock?

Thanks for the feedback. So would it be bad to use higher ESR caps? Also, everyone seems to have mixed reviews on using a higher uF and voltage. I'm still wondering if it would be that alright to use 35v caps everywhere and round the uF up to the next size. Like replacing a 330 uF 16v with a 470 uF 35v.

    Thanks.

  • Best caps to keep in stock?

I fixed my first LCD monitor the other week. I used caps from Radio shack only because I wanted to prove to myself that I could even make the repair before ordering them online. Now I want to buy a good supply of the right caps so I can repair 10 or more screens.

The only rule I was following up until now was using caps of the same voltage or higher and the same uF rating or higher. But now, I started reading some posts about caps rated for "general use" and some that are better for a power supply... and so on. I'm pretty sure my radio shack caps are rated pretty low....
