Re: LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
I tried the other ribbon cable. No change - looks the same as before. The thing I keep coming back to, that helps me to believe it's not the panel (even though it probably is), is that it is *exactly* 1/3 of the screen that is affected. Doesn't that seem a bit strange for a panel fault? Obviously I'm very new at this so maybe that is normal but it sure seems odd to me.
I don't even know what else to check for at this point though. Tom, thanks for all your help. You're a gentleman and a scholar!

Re: LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
New control board didn't fix it.The only thing (besides the panel) that I can even think might be the problem at this point is the ribbon cable between the control board and the XL board. Can I use the ribbon cable from the XR board (it's the only one long enough) to test between the control board and the XL board? The ribbon cable between the control board and the XL board is marked "ES1124" while the one between the control board and the XR card is marked "ES1130".
Even if switching these...

Re: LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
Still waiting for my new control board. Thanks tom66 for all the help!
I do have a few of questions though. How exactly does the self test work on the control board? I mean, in my situation, I did the test and I do see the cycling patterns but I also still see the defect (the large black vertical line). What exactly does this mean? Does this mean my main board is good and that the problem is further down the line? What does this test check for?
Also, I could see a flashing green light on the control...

Re: LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
The test patterns come up just fine when I use the jumper. I just happen to also still see the black vertical lines. Are you thinking I shouldn't see those while using the jumper?
My outcome so far is the same as when I started - seeing the black vertical lines.
I'm tempted to order the control board if there is any possibility that it is the cause of the problem.
Is there not a more systematic way to eliminate components as being the problem with these LG sets? I've seen...Last edited by ponchorage; 01-08-2015, 11:25 AM.

Re: LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
Here is the photo of the control board. Looks like somebody had already removed the tape over one of the ribbon cables. Thanks for your help!...Last edited by ponchorage; 01-04-2015, 11:06 AM.

LG 50PV400 black vertical lines and twin sections
I just picked up this set for my first attempt at TV repair. The guy I bought it from said he thought one of the x boards needed to be replaced. It's got a several inch section of black vertical lines with a couple of gray lines interspersed that start at the bottom but don't go all the way up and they flicker. To the right of that, and this is strange, there are dual vertical sections. It's like a small slice of the screen gets repeated. The pictures I've attached will explain it better than I have.
From my research it seems it could be a bad tape carrier package but I'm really...
