• Just re-capped my VP6 and all is good. :)

To get a complete set of caps for my VP6 would have cost me AU$40+ p/h . But i came up with a better idea.

I had an old Abit KG7-RAID that was always a bit unstable so i replaced it. So i used the caps from there. Nice and FREE!

I just replaced 8x 1500uF 6.3V caps. Targetting the ones that looked buffy. (I would have done more, but the KG7-RAID only had 9 and i broke one). And now it's all working.

So basically I took 2 dead motherboards and now have 1 fully working one.

• Are these caps any good?

I've been looking around for good quality caps and ones that are the correct ratings. I think i've found some, could someone in the know check that i've got it right?

from www.farnell.com goto the australian version of the site.

then look up the numbers

Cat no. 769071 = 1500uF 10V 10mmx23mm
Cat no. 768406 = 1000uF 10V 8mmx20mm
Cat no. 769150 = 1000uF 16V 10mmx20mm

They should be Rubycon Caps with 105 degrees temp rating and ultra low impedance.

Are these good caps? These should be direct replacements...

So did you actually install the kit and it didn't work? Or did you just de-cap the board?

If your gonna through it out, i'd be interested in it, even just to practise my soldering.

You got quoted A$432 to recap your VP6..haha.. that's a job.

I'm local to Sydney too, In Bexley. I've got the same problem.

Another guy on another forum - www.overclockers.com.au - got his components from farnell for $20 delived and the got the caps install by a guy in george st for $30. Total $50.

If your not interested in doing the recap, could i get your motherboard, i'd be happy to pick it up from you. Would give me a spare in case i stuff up my one.

Give me a call on 0422 396 559 or email me at mortus@optusn...
