just a bit sideways of topic. So if this level of tinkering is beyond my ability. Is this issue with NO backlighting at all it seems on this same model my son has worth taking for a repair?

Or would it just be give it a try anyway and if no success then bite the $$$ and buy another one (which I am loathe to do)

There isn't anything that peeves me more than not being able to fix something myself that should not be broken already in the first place. I'm not talking about oooops things but just it should still be working right things.

I'm a shameless tinkerer, am 59 and stubborn about giving up on fixing things which is what led me here.

and yes ... i will probably ask less than stellar questions to start with.
