Re: replacing caps in a PSU, same spec, different size?
Yeah, they're the TN series general purpose caps.
The PSU is a cheapie 300W PSU I picked up years ago, but it's the only one I have available that has a 12V P4 connector on it and the machine it was used in was still in service.
BAH... Guess I'll need to look into different caps.

replacing caps in a PSU, same spec, different size?
I just had a PSU crap out on me. Took it apart and found three fujjiyu 1000uf 10v caps that had gone bad. Looking in my parts bins, I found that I have three unused Sanyo 1000uf 10v caps, however they're physically smaller than the fujjiyu caps. Can I safely replace the larger caps with these smaller caps? I've never done a swap with smaller caps before and I'm hesitant to do it.

Re: Boss Audio amps - Which should I choose???
I know this is an old thread, but I'm an old-school car audio salesman and installer.
Boss = garbage.
I wouldn't touch anything with the Boss name on it. We used to call their power ratings "ILS Ratings"
If Lightning Strikes.
The only good use for a Boss amp is paperweight or doorstop.Re: Boss Audio amps - Which should I choose???

Re: Rubycon MCZ and Chemicon KZG mass failures
Ah, I wanted one of those for years. Ended up with a SB16 and Yamaha DB50XG daughtercard. I loved that combo....

Re: single bad cap near northbridge causes boot issues?
No doubt. I did pick up the caps from the local guy 'cause I needed that machine up and running ASAP for a project (plus I do like to support local businesses, even if their prices are a bit crappy)
I still need to get 1800uf 6.3V caps for my other P4 board. I'll order them from you this time....

Re: Bad caps on a video card?
The card doesn't have a fan, but whomever owned it before me grafted a 40mm fan to it. That didn't help at all.

Bad caps on a video card?
Since I'm going to recap my motherboards soon, I thought about one of my video cards that's been fairly problematic for me. The card came with my Asus board that's about to be recapped and is a Zogis GeForce FX5500 256MB AGP (ZO55-DAGP). It tends to works intermittently, usually resulting in locking up after a while. I figured I'd take a look at the caps on the board and they all look fine, but the name on the caps was cause for concern.
A google search brought me to a list of known bad manufacturers on this very site with Stone being on the list.

Re: single bad cap near northbridge causes boot issues?
Yeah, I posted the voltage last night.
That looks like the right size, I'll double check when I get home.
After this one, my Asus board is next, followed by the Gateway/Intel unit and my server's Tyan dual Athlon MP board which, like the Gateway, has plenty of leaking caps yet still runs like a champ (current uptime is about 2 months)...

Re: single bad cap near northbridge causes boot issues?
Awesome! Since I forgot to bring the pic with me, I don't have the particulars of the cap so I can't swing by Frys to see if they have a replacement. Hopefully I'll have this issue solved by tomorrow evening! I'm TIRED of using the far slower gateway....

single bad cap near northbridge causes boot issues?
Back again, this time with a different board. I haven't recapped the Asus P4G800-V I posted about last time (I'll get to it soon!) having bought a replacement to hold me over.
This time, I have a single bad cap on it's replacement: an ASRock P4VM890 board.
I've circled the cap in this stock pic since I forgot the SD card the pic I took was on. Anywho, this is the ONLY bad cap on the board. I've been having problems with this thing refusing to boot. I originally had a 3.4GHz P4 HT Prescott on the board along with a firewire card and Geforce 8400 PCI-E...
