Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Actual original resistor value per my Fluke is 6.1 ohm. A bit out of spec. from 5.6 ohm
I did replace gate driver as a matter of course. Did not test original device.
Yes, devices were secured to heatsink with thermal paste. Gate driver is SMD SOIC. I used my Hot Air Rework workstation to ensure ground pad was appropriately soldered to the board.
The heatsink for the two devices was hot enough to sizzle the moisture on my finger. So devices were overdriven or heatsink is undersized.

I noticed scorch marks on 2 SS board mounting screws: the top, and the one near the Vsus connector.
Based on scorch marks, service manual flowchart, the great info on this forum and a technical bulletin (TB-13-02) from Panasonic, all suspicion fell to a defective SS board, specifically: Q051, D041 and R051.
The gate resistor (R051) teseted fine, however, the diode and IGBT were shorted.
These parts were replaced...

I've worked as a hardware engineer for a three letter computer mainframe manufacturer, system architect, programmer and network engineer for a large bank in NYC. And now have my own shop building custom embedded microprocessor based devices and saving our landfills by repairing consumer electronics.
