• Re: SAMMY LN40A530P1F on the decline

I have tried combos of the new and old TCon and Main boards to no success. I have not checked the PSB outright, but I do "smell" the main board (heatsink and coax shields) warming.

There is no backlight that I can discern, and no: menus, static, or any kind of sound or screen image. The only thing I can see is a flashing standby light.

Would this indicate that the PSB is probably OK, and still problem with the main board? I bought it from an internet supplier, so I don't want to yank anything...

Thanks budm.

The Red LED flashes all the time. I have only left it on for two minutes.

*I got the TCON as a "compatible model" via Shopjimmy.
*The main board I bought from EZK liquidators (Shopjimmy was out). It was a "tested/working" unit yanked from a TV. This was purchased due to the tuner issue anyway.

Thanks budm.
Can you use any base fluo bulb? It makes me a bit nervous-- the board would handle the initial startup voltage like a ballast, right?

[I will take some pics too.]

The CAPS all LOOK OK (no bulges or leaks). I believe the 25v were the replacements. It seemed to work OK after that repair for a few years.

more detailed history:
The first thing I noticed was the OTA tuner stopped working --about a year and a half ago (we had cable TV prior to that, so is possible that the tuner had failed earlier than that). I used an inexpensive OTA antenna to HDMI output tuner at that point for tuning in TV stations (OTA). OK for at least a year....

[my ignorance here-- I am here to learn]

Is there an easy way to test the PS voltages? and The ribbon cables to TCon and Mainboard too?

I only have a midrange multimeter on hand (no capacitance or ESR –– which is what I was told I may need to check in circuit).

Otherwise I'd have to yank each capacitor (is that right?).

I am also a bit skiddish to check-- I've never worked on a TV (generates high voltage to startup). I've only done a few small electronics, occasional stereo. I don't...

FOLLOWUP-- so I ordered a TCON BOARD and the MAINBOARD for this model (just to be safe). Installed both and have only the "flashing standby" light on the TV. Nothing else.
Any ideas? What would cause a flashing standby light with no backlight or picture, no access to menus, etc.?

• Re: SAMMY LN40A530P1F on the decline

I am wondering if there is any particular mainboard model number compatible with this TV model that offers better results/stability than the original-- if for no other reason than the mainboard for this series is a bit pricey and hard to come by.

Had two different CAPS replaced over three repairs. On one repair, the service guy put in the higher capacity than original (wonder if that over time caused damage to boards).

• SAMMY LN40A530P1F on the decline

My question:
which mainboards can be used in this set (or am I strictly limited to the original BN97-01985n)? I'd imagine that the mainboard/power board combos span across a few models, and am wondering if anyone out there knows which would work with this set.

BACKSTORY:
I have the Samsung LN40A530P1F. Have used the extended warranty twice over the years to repair various CAP issues. Just recently (after almost 7 years or so of use), the TV shows very thin green vertical lines with a hint of picture behind it, and a high pitched audio screech.

Ridiculously stubborn home-repair guy here. I try to avoid getting in over my head...but am occasionally fool-hearty. I am a sloppy solderer. A real cheapo most times. Current project: delivering a TV I paid 1200 bucks for from potential doom.
