Re: Help troubleshooting Dell laptop
Well, ran some test on the board. I dont think its bad. Did a diode test and I got back this:
What do you make of this?
I checked the rest of the board. Didnt see any disconnected solder points. I'm going to keep checking I guess.

Re: Help troubleshooting Gateway LCD FPD1510
Where is the best place to get replacement parts and how would you recommend going about doing this?
Thanks for all your help!

Ahhhhhhh! Well that makes sense! I'm gonna test it first thing tomorrow! Plus, where can I find a new one? Most likely place? Radio Shack possibly?

Re: Help troubleshooting Dell laptop
Here are some more pics as you asked:
Willawake: If its a diode then that explains the power issues. But it fooled me because it has color bands like a resistor. Hopefully these pics will help more.
arneson: Thats what I was thinking. Whats my next step?
kc8adu: How could I have a cola/coffee spill on the bottom of the motherboard?

Re: Help troubleshooting Gateway LCD
Yeah, there is stuff written on it. I'll try my best to make it out when I get home but the cap is kinda burnt. When I opened the LCD up the cap was just laying to the side disconnected from the board.
And yes, there is a very similiar circuit on the other side of the board.

Well, found the problem. Take a look at these pictures:
NOW, what is that piece and how do I fix it without killing myself from the high voltage?

Re: Help troubleshooting Dell laptop
Hey everyone, here is a update. I took the thing apart and on the bottom side of the motherboard, less than a 1/2 inch from the power jack, I found this:
Does something look bad to you?

Thank you very much! I'm going to do some more testing on the board to find the culprit.

Re: Help troubleshooting Gateway LCD
Hey guys! Thanks for the replies!
Willawake - does it on a know good pc.
Galvanized - I read the whole post you linked me too and it sounds like the exact same problem I'm having. It's probably the transistors. How do I test the transistors? I have a multimeter

Help troubleshooting Dell laptop
I need help! I'm stumped. I have a Dell Inspirion 5150 I'm repairing. At first diagnosis, I thought the power jack was bad on the laptop since that is usually the case so I replaced the power jack but still no luck.
You plug the power adapter in to the power jack and I get NOTHING at all. I have tested the power adapter and its putting out the right 19.5 Volts. What else could it be?
Before I replaced the power jack, it was doing the same, dead. HELP!!

Help troubleshooting Gateway LCD FPD1510
Hello all! I do some side work as a computer repair guy but I usually never work on LCD's. Someone gave me a LCD they said was bad and I'm trying to repair it. The LCD will come on for about 1 or 2 seconds when you first cut the computer on and then immediately shut off and say "no video feed". I'm sure there is a faulty electronic part inside but I'm not sure which one. I've been doing a lot of work repairing caps so soldering is not a problem.
Its a Gateway FPD1510. Thanks all!
