• Re: Olevia 237-T12 working fine but shouldn't be.

Encouraging to hear, lol. Tonight without any cooling added to the unit, mine went crazy started buzzing like a snowy picture and a scrambled picture and lots of green in picture. Guess its time to open it up again. But, same fix, turn ceiling fan on and works for hours.

Well, tonight the remote works, but after an hour of playing Wii with my kid. It went buzz really loud almost like snowy picture, and the screen went scrambled and lots of green tones. Turned tv off 5 mins, works great again, but I turned on ceiling fan and working for half hour now. I guess I need to take off the cover and heat up certain parts of the boards and try to find the fault.

I am having the same problem with my TV. Everything is fine until I put a cover on it. Once the cover is on it will shut down and return with blue LED standby light on. I can turn it back on in five minutes and it works great again. If I turn ceiling fan on it will cool the back of unit with fan blowing up, tv close to the wall in a small room. It works for hours. I had the cover off the back and it worked great for at least 5 hours. I was thinking of just adding a computer fan to the back and pull the heat out quicker, but I would...

funny you say its a Phillips LCD. This Olevia has Phillips LG tag on the boards on the side of the TV at the edge (inverter boards, now that I just googled what an inverter is), and noteable is that they used I assume real Rubycon Caps, but the PSU had CapXon, UCC, and the A/V board has CapXon and Jackon caps.

Any one run into a problem with partial remote functions? I would assume it all works or not at all... especially when the tv set itself has buttons that DO work for volume and powering on and off.

well, It seems I did NOT fix the problem. I used the TV with the cover off and no problems. I then came back from vacation and soldered the 8 smaller caps in. TV turned on fine all good. TV shut off again. So turned on the ceiling fan and the TV stayed on much longer until it was bedtime. Tuesday night it finally popped. So I turned the I/O switch and pulled the plug and disassembled again.

So I decided my solder joints were very horrible, took it to a electronics shop and the guy fixed the solder joints, but he pointed out a ball...

• Re: Can a Bestec be made good?

Just chiming in here, I decided to disassemble my 2004 emachine, I don't have the specs with me right here ATM. But it has slowly become slower from what I think it should be. Loading google . com in chrome takes about 30-45 seconds.

I took it all apart and air canned the electronics and washed the plastic parts. It was extremely gross. It has a 300W PSU but again, I didnt think to get a pic. All I took a pic of was the MOBO. The Bestec 300W PSU looked fine. I did notice the CapXon 2 large caps and most of the rest were Jamicon and some...

Excited about getting in my new caps from BCN.

RS3, RS5, RS11 were the caps I replaced in the first pic.

then next to CS3, BS1, I guess I forgot to snap a pic of the other two 680uF/25v caps I installed.

I honestly had a hard time getting one solder joint done well. On the RPTV IC repair I did twice, never had so much trouble. even with regular 60/40 rosin solder, I had a hella time getting just that one single joint done. Anyway, I changed the tip to another chisel tip and first shot, done.

• Re: Cleaning Motherboards - ATTN SMOKERS!!

Last night I went to clean the PSB for a TV with 91% isopropyl alcohol with a toothbrush to get the solder flux off and clean it up in general. I read most of this 7 page thread but I did not see anyone mention this.. But after scrubbing board and rinsing it down with more alcohol, it left a white residue that would disappear when you touch it with your fingers. Is that normal? Or do I need to rinse with distilled water afterwards and let dry?

It was what I had. Im going to get new stuff today. It worked great on my Phillips 60" RPTV when I soldered in new ICs. and When I did ONE cap in my car radio unit. Thanks for reply. I am still waiting on smaller caps from Mouser to come in.

Got my caps in today. Got 7 of 16 desoldered. Had a hard ass time getting new solder to stick to the lead. I gave up for the night and well probably getting new solder. I am using 8 year old r radio shack solder. High tech silver bearing solder. Very thin. About half the leads did good then I just gave up for tonight. Tried so much I need to clean the solder rosin off.before I try again.

• Re: Need help picking correct capacitor

can always use MFG part number from digikey and buy from Mouser, or buy them here. I bought some of mine from badcaps.net . I should get them in the mail today

• Re: 470 'uf' 35V CapXon, Selecting the right cap.

Diving deeper into Mouser and choosing a cap for my replacements,

it seems that Nichicon will be the brand I go with for these smaller caps. I am having some concerns as to which cap is better suited to the application.

4.7uF/50v either PS or PW series, only difference I see is higher reliabilty, except that on Mouser... they are cheaper which makes me curious, is the more expensive one better or the higher reliability. a difference of 6 cents between the 2 make me cautious.

next.....

• Re: Honda Civic ECU

Being a 2006 model I would suggesting ignition switch or main relay (responsible for fuel pump and starter)

Do you get anything when you try to start? any dash lights? any clicking from starter? or just completely dead?

sadly an old thread and OP never came back with what happened so we can learn...

• Re: resale value nosedived .

It is a time of year where people don't want to spend ANY money. as mentioned before, its about quantity, not quality anymore. 'yay! more boxes to open than last year'

I work in the car business at a dealership selling car parts and occasional wrenching. We are slow too. But just wait until people get their tax returns and start blowing their money. No black friday sales then.

I completely agree. I was only going to replace the larger caps on my TV power supply board because 3 of the large ones had 'popped' But I feel I was convinced to replace all 16 on my PSB from experienced members here.

If you notice as you are selecting a cap, they have life ratings. So, every cap in your entire system is the exact same age and they could go in a day, a week, or a year later. Better to be safe than sorry. I have realized how dang cheap good caps are, I'm surprised companies actually use inferior...

I guess by your statement I can assume that CapXon values are bloated and I should be able to find an appropriately matched quality cap.

• Re: 470 'uf' 35V CapXon, Selecting the right cap.

No, I bought them from badcaps.net since site is so useful I chose to support the forum. I made a spreadsheet on original caps vs. the Rubycons I bought and they will definately work and have higher ripple current.

The other 8 caps (2 of each) range from
4.7uF @ 50v ripple current rating 90
10uF @ 50v 120
33uF @ 35v 175
100uF @ 25v 370

values taken from website http://www.paullinebarger.net/DS/Capxon/

In these smaller capacitance values, it is being...

• Re: 470 'uf' 35V CapXon, Selecting the right cap.

Getting back to having good information, I have 16 caps to replace in total.
14 are CapXon
2 are United Chemi-con

12 are CapXon KF
2 are CapXon GL
2 are United Chemi-com KY

The replacements I bought here were different series but ALL Rubycon. ZLH, ZLJ, MCZ and the last one was a 1000 uf/16v and I bought both available online here. One a HZ and the other a ZLH, Only difference I noticed at first was the size. But the orginal one is 10mm x 20mm

What is the difference...

• Re: What does ripple current mean?

Is this statement correct?

Hey guys, I am trying to do my research on getting the right cap for my TV psb repair. I bought some caps online here and I assume the will fit and are correct. I went by Farad rating and Voltage and usually there was only one choice.

So reason Im here in this thread now is that I used this http://www.paullinebarger.net/DS/ to find ripple current and specs on CapXon caps that are original to my board.
