Might need to keep an eye on this one. A lot of caps on the mobo, with all beeing reputable except 7 caps near the CPU that have been flagged elsewhere as potential problem makers.
7 x OST 1500uF 6.3V gold writing on blue caps (7.5mm tall ish)
Have not had the chance to power up yet but will do so in a couple of days and let you know.

Fron the "Identifying Bad Caps" section
Well after finally extracting my mobo this is what I found
all big caps are JACKCON
15 x 1500uF 6.3v 10mm (gold printing on black)
4 x 1000uF 16v 10mm (white printing on black)
4 x 1000uF 16v 7.5mm (white printing on black)
The replacement kit from badcaps.com
15 x 1500uF 10v 10mm
4 x 1000uF 16v 10mm
4 x 1000uF 10v 10mm
Hummmmmmmm makes you wonder don't it.
If these were actually good caps, would the difference...

With the exchange rate today of 0.7 ish that equates to about US$300
"A whole bunch" definitely.
As for the fate of this mobo, I need to check with a few friends about their abilities with a soldering iron, otherwise I would be happy to send it to a good home willing to pickup the shipping.

How Much :o
Well even though I had decided to replace my mobo etc. I thought it would be interesting to get a quote (local to Sydney Australia)
AUD $432
:o :o :o :o :o
I guess I will be throwing my old VP6

Opened the VP6 case the other day and looked at all the caps. They are black with white writing, but I was not able to get close enough to read.
As there is no discharge and no bulging on any of the caps, I can only assume that they are faulty and are not doing their job properly.
Recently I installed XP pro and on the odd occasion I actually get a BSOD it tells me that XP is shutting down (ha) to avoid hardware damage ! Most of the time it just freezes.
I have decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. Looking at a ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe. No point...

My VP6 has been flaky for ages, although I only found this site and what I guess is the real problems a couple of days ago.
I use to have to drop the case onto it's side from a couple of inches to get power to the mobo :o
It ran fine (only a couple of freezes) over 12 months since the last rebuild then after a period of 7 days where the computer was unplugged I came back to find it freezing at least every hour, if not during boot up (W2KAS).
I figured that it was a HDD problem so I replace the smaller RAID 0 array with a big new one. Finished loading...

Good Cap Boards
Is it safe to assume that new boards will use good caps?
If you have purchased a board that has known good caps please feel free to list them here ..... (I am looking for a VP6 replacement)

Hi from MoonShadow
Hi peoples,
I'm from Sydney Australia and have been in the software development side of computers for 15 years now. Along the way I have build a few machines, for work and home, but don't think I should be given a soldering iron even if my life depended on it.
I am not sure how happy I am to find this forum as I have a VP6 with system freeze issues so I guess I will be replacing my mobo. I had been getting HDD failures as well, so I bought 2 new HDD to replace the RAID array with issues and the problem went away .... until I finished...
