Thank you for the answer. Do I need some special equipement for this, or can it be done in the old classic way - by preparing an USB flash drive? Do you have some more information, how I could blind-flash the BIOS for this model?

    Many Thanks!...

A little update: When i leave the laptop turned on, with it's black screen and fans spinning, it shuts itself off every 30-32 seconds, then after 3-5 seconds it turns back on, and same thing happens infinitely. This seems like a sign, but I still can't figure out or find any information why it is doing this loop.

Also I didn't mentioned - caps lock and numlock buttons doesn't react or glow at all.

  • Toshiba C50-B-15J / suddenly No POST - any ideas what could be the problem?

    Hello guys,

Got a Toshiba Satellite laptop (C50-B-15J / PSCMNE), which suddenly went dead for no apparent reason.

    1) When I plug in the AC adapter, charging/power led lights up and indicates, that there is power to the motherboard (with battery in, LED glows orange; without battery - LED glows white);
    2) When I turn the laptop on, fan starts to spin in a constant rate, the power button glows white (indicating that the laptop is turned on).
    3) I can hear that the hard drive and cd-rom is initialising, but there is no other activity - no sounds from the...

  • Re: Compaq Presario F700 sound problem

UPDATE: Reflow of MCP67MV-A2 north bridge chipset solved all problems completely. After a little research, I discovered that the problem with this exact chipset is very popular among many HP and Compaq laptops (including all the sympthoms i mentioned before). It certainly was a bad solder connection between this BGA chipset and the motherboard.

  • Re: Compaq Presario F700 sound problem

Hello all, and sorry for bringing this old topic up, but I have an exact problem, with the very same laptop here. Laptop boots up with freshly installed Windows 7, but it doesn't show any sound controllers. Also DVD drive is not being recognized at all, and it has a strange video problem - when it boots into Windows OS, the screen turns off sometimes (and i can get it back to life only by turning off / turning on laptop), but not every time.

    Motherboard Model: DA0AT1MB8H0 Rev: H.
    Chipset: MCP67MV A2 / 0808A2

  • Re: Asus F5Z & Windows 7 = progress bar animations goes superfast

UPDATE: The problem gets more interesting. It turned out, that when the laptop cools down completely, after turning it on without touchpad attached, it also shows these lags. However, if i turn off the laptop, plug in the touchpad, turn on laptop, then turn off and unplug the touchpad, it will start to work normally. Hah, i don't know even what to do. I think I will need to take a deeper look on that motherboard.

I must admit, i'm too fast in making assumptions lol, anyway i will make a few more posts about this problem, just in case others have something similar in future, so maybe somebody will find this useful.

I tried 3 more times to replug the touchpad, just to confirm, that it's indeed faulty, and 2 of 3 times the problem reappeared. 3rd time was strange - it suddenly started to work without any lags, but i knew, that this could be temporarily. After a couple of restarts - of course problem was showing...

Well, it seems coper shim does the job well. Laptop still hasn't turned off by itself since the time I implanted it in

  • Re: Asus F5Z & Windows 7 = progress bar animations goes superfast

Problem solved. Turns out the touchpad had a bad circuitry, which caused those lags. (i suspect, that something was spilled on it previously). Once i disconnected it from the motherboard, everything started to work normally.

Also the interesting thing is, when i leaved it connected, but disabled it in BIOS - nothing changed - lags was still there.

I will later post some more updates about this, but for now the solution is apparent.

P.s. didn't noticed it on XP, because I...

  • Asus F5Z & Windows 7 = progress bar animations goes superfast

Hello, i recently got an Asus F5Z laptop in my hands, and it has a very strange problem - with Windows 7 installed, once it starts and the Windows "flag animation" comes up - it goes extremely fast, like the computer would be in some "super turbo" mode. Also every progress bar animation does the same thing.

When i tried to boot from an official Windows 7 dvd (from which i installed Windows on this laptop), the same thing happened - all animations superfast.

I also checked the system clock in the BIOS (i had a thought, it could be a system timer,...

  • Re: For crying out loud MSI...

Oh my gooooosh, this seemed a bit nasty. I think it would be more original to create a video about what to NOT use as an alternative for a thermal compound.

I've seen it all - a foundation (makeup) cream, a hand cream, a toothpaste, even a super glue on the cpu. Why the hell they don't make videos about this?

  • Re: Asus F3E overheating problem

Hey, thanks for the info, mate! Fan is working as it should - spins fast, airflow is good, no rattle noises. However didn't knew about that heatpipe thing, so it's actually a valuable tip! The only problem is - where to find a replacement. I took an eye on eBay, but I couldn't find any active listing with this exact heatsink.

I guess your theory explains why a copper shim gave a bit better results - because of ineffective heatpipes, heat was not traveling away from chips as fast as it should, and with a copper shim I somehow managed...

  • Asus F3E overheating problem

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with this. I have a laptop - ASUS F3e Series, which apparently has some problems with overheating.

I've cleaned it from the dust, changed the thermal compund (various types), even added a copper shim between heatsink and the gpu (which seems to give a bit better results, but not enough), but it always gets hot to approx 78-80C, when i run a burn-in tests on it.

The problem is - sometimes it just turns off (no restart, just turns off, with no fans, no lights running). I'm not 100% sure, but i think in...

  • Re: Toshiba Satellite C850-B720 no power

Hey fddizon, yesterday i got the same laptop with a very same problem, like you had. I suspect it has suffered from charger with reversed polarity as well, but unfortunately i'm not so techy with finding these fets, as i'm still learning to solve problems on such a low level. Was it this one? (just a guess)

If not, could you give me a part number, or a marking on the circuit board, which mosfet was shorted? Thanks!Re: Toshiba...

  • Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds

Thanks for the tip about 5:4. Can you PM me please about the details, how much would you want for one 17" or 19" lcd screen (price+shipping cost), and how much can you ship them at one time?

  • Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds

This is getting more interesting.. You say, not a single person is interested to buy from you a 19" 4:3 monitor? I think you would have a demand at my country, where minimal salary is only 320 Eur/month. Even with 400-500 Eur / month it's getting pretty uncomfortable to live here, but many people do. Salesman, shop assistants, janitors, even teachers, nurses, policeman and fire fighters, all of them mostly have a salary <= 500 Eur / month.

Many people simply can't afford to pay 100$ or more for a new LED screen (without a loan),...

  • Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds

Recently I got a perfectly good 17" LCD monitor right from our recycling center. As the lcd screen had no cracks, I expected some problems with capacitors, ccfls, or transformers, so I disassembled it without even trying to power it up. I have a bad habit of that, lol, and this time was not the first one, this habit punched me in face - all circuits was in perfect condition - no bulging capacitors, no signs of overheating, NO other defects. Even no dead pixels on the lcd panel. Assembled it back, powered up, worked on it for more than 4 hours -...

Hello everyone, my name is Edgars and i'm from Latvia. I'm practicing as a computer technician and software developer for more than 10 years. I remember, i started to shape myself into this field, in early years of high school. But while my curiosity follows everything that's related to computers and technology, my heart was dedicated to music a lot earlier, and it still is.

In fact, i feel a bit ashamed, i didn't registered here earlier, hah. BadCaps community is such an incredible resource, where lots of...
