• Re: TV Recap - Bush (Alba) LCD2280f1080P

Thanks (again) for your help selldoor

Got the verniers out - they are 2.4mm.
Might have to get some of those just in case nothing more local turns up.... and recalling the order of assembly might be fun after a month! ...

Yes you did.
Sorry it took so long to catch up!! On the upside I learned a few things along the way....

Tubes are CCFL so perhaps an early (or cheaper) screen?

Once it works again I might try and find out why it whines on standby ...

YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Four bulbs - thanks for that, I had them all unplugged.... plugged in 3 and used the probe bulb and worked along until they stayed on....

Massive thanks to you all for your help and encoragement

Now all I need is a source of tubes and some luck taking the panel apart... Any tips or UK sources for tubes? Panel is 290mm and nine tubes - however tha splits into 4 only time (or a drawing) will tell
edit - it's edge lit 4 x 480mm...

Hi budm - checked these out:

Fuse F101 reads 0 Ohms

Part number for both is PK8J FDS 8962C

Also noticed none of the other components on that section of the diagram are fitted - D134 and D136 & C139, 140, C115 and C142.

Resistances
IC102
Pin 1 10M
Pin 2 10M
Pin 3 2.1M
Pin 4 2.2M

IC104
Pin1 10M
Pin2 10M
Pin3 2.4M
Pin4 2.2M

These do vary - pin 1/2 falliing and 3/4 rising....

Thanks Tom... now you've pointed them out I can't see why I didn't find them...!

I hate it when that happens! Thanks for re-typing

Progress (if you call it that) thus far I have tapped out the voltages on the connector. 3.3V amd 12V coming back look a bit odd. See attached. Checked the fuses you pointed out and all the other Fxxx I can find - all ok.

So having watched the excellent video on testing regulators I checked the three on the mainboard.

Hi... thanks for your help... I've tried a few things and done some reading

- removed and resoldered the HV Caps (and ordered the eBay ones in case!)
- changed the 1000uF for some I had in the drawer to see. Fitted caps tested as (in ohms) HEC 1.8M, 1.4M 1.2M and the SAMXON 5.4M
- reflowed an ugly blob joint on a SMD cap in the HV DC section just in case.
No difference.

With Mainboard connected the point arrowed (in the Top...

Evening all

Any ideas where I might locate a schematic?

Seems very similar to the JVC guide layout, but not quite the same....

Not under Bush/Alba/Sharp/Vestel at http://www.toms-service-manuals.com/Re: TV Recap - Bush (Alba) LCD2280f1080P

Thanks for your replies - as you can see I'm no expert in this

Thanks budm - no not at all sure!

Dug a little deeper in the datasheet and see mention of 3000M resistance (explains the OL meter reading) and fire retardant coating!

Caps still blue - is it worth changing to eliminate - if I can find one?

Won't be too worried if it's a couple of quid and fixes it selldoor

How about these? Wary as no mention of inverters and these seem (from...

Broken out iron and desoldering pump... removed the two caps C124 and C130. Both test open circuit on the DVM and don't respond on a jerry rigged RC tester like a good 2.2nF (or other various test sizes I used) - I think they are dead.

Now a little help needed to find a match please I've not found the original part but can anyone confirm it's a 2.2nF? Don't think there's much doubt about the 3Kv rating

Found these - is either suitable or one better than the other in this application?

Sorry that's my bad photography - it's a gap in the heatsink showing the top of the electrolytics.

The gap under the transformer where C171 is marked is in red here - all I can see are the pads. I think!

Would C171 be surface mount on the other side (lots of stuff is on that side)?

As you suggest may be time to break out the iron and try some stuff... busy tonight so may not be until tomorrow ...
Can you make it so your pictures just appear as thumbnails so they dont load every time.

Sorry updated

No cap that I can see... unless it's under the grey blob? (one blob with two brown 'buttons' appear each side in the middle)

Thanks again for the replies - they're giving me some hope it can be fixed.

Sounds like a morsel of good news at last?

Both test the same - 840 ohms... hopefully more good news?

Looks like C171 not fitted

C124 and C130 are SL 2.2C 3Kv...

• Re: TV Recap - Bush (Alba) LCD2280f1080P

Hi guys - thanks for the quick responses

Tested the diodes and the caps in situ. Don't have a 'spare' CCFL' to test with.

I felt sure I wouldn't be the first to have seen this....

Stripped down some more and the tubes are within the panel, not visible, and its made by LG.

Is it worth stripping down further - will I be able to get new tubes?...

• TV Recap - Bush (Alba) LCD2280f1080P

Hi everyone - my first thread... so hopefully in the correct place

This is my first mission and having done some reading here I thought I'd ask a few questions before diving in with my soldering iron (circa 1980!)

My son's TV, a 'budget' model is around four or five years old (from memory and all the 08 and 09 numbers I keep seeing on the inside) and has what looks like the "2 seconds to black" symptoms:

Power on and the standby light illuminates, power on from remote and there is a pause and then the backlights flash (as in flashbulb if...

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello from the UK

I'm an occasional tinkerer the wrong side of 30... and 40! I do have a bit of electronics knowledge but it's a little rusty, quite old and I don't do this everyday for a living!

I've been reading up on the site now I'm looking forward to fixing my TV (actually project #1 is my son's TV) with some of your help. I've done a bit of research and now I have a few questions

Look forward to chatting soon...

Cheers,
Nige
