  • Re: Panasonic TH-PX60U is completely dead.

Two possible reasons for the picture quality, neither of which have anything to do with real engineering or electronics:

    1. I was so excited that I actually fixed it that I saw more than what actually appeared on the screen.

    2. It has been dead for so long that ANY picture looked perfect.

Oh, and the most likely reason is that I upgraded my cable service while the set was dead, so I had an HDMI capable cable box and used an HDMI cable for the first time on the TV.

Latest update: I installed the DG board today. Panasonic makes access to the DG so much fun (sarcasm)! They stack another bracket and circuit board on top of it.

After installation, I plugged the unit in and heard relays, for the first time since it died. Flipped it over and the on switch gave me a red LED (solid, no blinks of death). Used the remote and got an input display on the screen. Plugged cable box in, and got the best picture I've seen on it for years. That DG board must have been dying for some time.

I installed the P Board today and the TV is still dead. I'm going to try replacing the DG board, which is what the original troubleshooting flow chart told me was the issue.

To update a bit on where I am so far, TW2005 posted a thumbnail that seemed to indicate the issue was a P board, but that may have been from a newer unit. He also provided some helpful Powerpoint tutorials, which included steps to take once a new P board is installed. At this point, I plan to replace the P board and see where that leads me. If anyone has any other suggestions or requires a photo of the open unit, I'd be more than happy to oblige..

  • Panasonic TH-PX60U is completely dead.

I have an issue with my TH-50PX60U. It is completely dead. No lights, no blinks, just kaput. I found a troubleshooting manual that Tom66 had posted, and it led me to either a bad P board or bad DG board. Here is the quandry, which board is it?

At first, I thought the issue was simple (like you all haven't heard that one before!). My kids used the on button on the set often when the tv remote lost power, so i figured either the button itself had worn down or the switch board was bad. Button was fine, and I replaced the board, still no fix.

    I tested the power cord,...

  • Re: Panasonic TH-50PX60U 7 blinks

The only powerpoint that deals with diagnosing my model is Lesson 4, and that one only has one page for an SC board fault, which does not have the symptoms of my unit. I think I'm going to take a leap of faith and go with a new P board. Worst case scenario is a misdiagnosis and then I'll most likely need a DG board. I'll still pick up some knowledge and be under the cost limit I set before I give up and buy a new one.

Those tutorials are amazing! I am apparently such a newbie to this that I didn't realize a P board replacement was more than just a "plug and play" operation.

7-zip worked perfectly. Thanks Tom! Does anyone have a recommendation for an online parts supplier? I've already purchased and installed a switch board from AllProTvParts.com. (I originally thought the switch was the issue, since my kids kept pushing it instead of replacing the batteries in the remote). However, with something as complex as a P board, I'd rather have a proven source.

Unfortunately, the repair courses you provided have a file extension I can't open. Tried to unzip them, but no luck. Unless you believe I'm wrong in my diagnosis of a bad P board, I'm going to go ahead and order a replacement.

I must have been looking at an older guide. According to your thumbnail, my issue is clearly a bad P board, as there are 0v at pin 1 of PA40.

I'm apparently so new to the forum that I cannot yet start a new thread. I will be more than happy to do so once I'm allowed.

I haven't yet looked at the guides contained in your second post, but I will, just to be absolutely certain my diagnosis is correct.

Thank you for the quick and on point advice!...

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I also have an issue with my TH-50PX60U. It is completely dead. No lights, no blinks, just kaput. I found a troubleshooting manual that Tom66 had posted, and it led me to either a bad P board or bad DG board. Here is the quandry, which board is it? AC relays did not click when power cord was put in, so went to step 2, which was to test if either pin 1 of PA40 or pin 1 of HC22 had 5V. PA40 had 0V, but HC22 had 5V. The problem is, HC22 had nothing plugged into it.

According to the chart, if I answer...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hey there, ruatha65 from the mountains of southwest VA. I'm an at home "jack of all trades, master of none" and I'm trying to get some info on an issue with my Panasonic TH-50PX60u. This set has been with me for 7 years, through thick and thin, and I'd like to bring it back from the dead. I am by no means an expert, but my dad trained me years ago in basic electronics, with strong safety precautions, so I'm not going to fry myself at least!
