Well, Cory.....how did the IR board replacement work out for you? I'm interested in knowing how things went......

Well, just an update. Replaced inverter board, didn't mess with the transformer since I got a good price on board and eight lights. However, when I received the shipment six of the eight lights didn't survive.
Went ahead and tried to power up system with the bad inverter board and it did light the upper light. The light stayed on for the same amount of time the rest of them did, until the TV shut itself back down again. So not really able to verify anything there. Wish I had taken some measurements on the FB1 and FB2 terminals, but didn't.

Thanks KASFAMILY. That one I did find, it was the other ones I seem to really be having an issue with. Plus, I was hoping to get them somewhere on this side of the pond, if possible.

  • How do you find replacement parts???

Working on the Y Main for a Samsung model PN51D550C1FXZA, it has part number LJ92-01763A REV AA4 board installed in it.

Do you know if the "DFG" designation, on top of the heat sink, means anything? Have found boards the have DF, DHG, on them and they seem to be a bit different, very few with the DFG designation.
Is there a better part number to use when looking for this board?

.....would like a schematic of the board.

From the checks I have made: D4103,Q4101, Q4104, D4302 are all shorted. Q4301 and Q4302 are shorted on one side (assuming...

With my IR board out. Measuring resistance black lead on pin 7; every pin, 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 and 9 all read an open (using 2000 ohm setting)

I did swap the leads just to see if it would make a difference:

    pin 1 = 372
    pin 2, 3, 4 = open
    pin 5 = 1725
    pin 6 = 840
    pin 8 = 706
    pin 9 = 706

Only did this to prove you have to have the black lead on ground when making the resistance readings. I am sure there is a diode in there somewhere that gets forward biased with leads...

Okay. I feel good that we may have found something wrong, which is a good thing. Is an open on 2 to 4 a indication of bad lamp or bad transformer? I was assuming it was the transformer, but figured I had better ask if the lamp would affect the reading or not.

So, if I were to connect everything back together; minus the LCD panel all the back lights should come on? More then likely the top one will not work. Or am I asking for more trouble then it is worth to try this?

Thank you, kind sir, for your assistance. It truly is apprecia...

Cory, this TV does look very much like the Emerson I am working on. May have the same problem, may not.

@Bud: You are helping us both, so hopefully, you don't get confused as the symptoms seem to be the same. On mine, I did disconnect the 9 pin ribbon cable on the main, basically taking the IR and front panel out of the loop. Then shorted pin 6 and 7, momentarily, on the main (like when you push the on button). Results were the same. TV came on, 5 seconds later, it went to standby. Would that work here? Should it have worked...

Thanks Bud, I will do that. First let me blow off a little steam....

Got the PS board today and installed it. Lo and behold, same problem. TV comes on, Emerson splash screen and goes off. LED blinks while TV is coming on and then goes solid when it shuts off (standby).

Disconnected all connectors I thought I could get away with, so left IR, Main and PS connected together. Same results.

Disconnected IR, so now only PS and Main connected. Shorted pins on Main to get TV to come on. Same results.

    Assuming...

Post the pictures! Bud can do wonderful things with them!

I am just getting into this stuff, but I would suspect the IR board or even the remote. Is there something sending a constant signal to the IR board telling the tv to turn on and off?

Tried to find a wiring diagram for your set but couldn't find one for that model number. Does your TV have a On/Off button? Does it make a difference if you use the panel button or the remote?

You disconnect the IR board, plug in the TV and it...

I'm still waiting for the board to come in, hopefully tomorrow. I went to your other post and saw that budm had replied to you post, requesting pictures of your TV and boards. Provide those to him, you may be surprised at what he can do with them. Make them as clear as possible, look at the thread he posted to your post.

Thanks Tom, for ruining my day!!
Just saw your link to service manuals....great set up! I was hoping to add to you list but you already have the fast track and troubleshooting guide I had found.

Do you know if the "DFG" designation, on top of the heat sink, means anything?
Is there a better part number to use when looking for this board?

I am down to either spending the extra on the board, or repairing this one. Not sure where to start on the repairing of this board.....would like a schematic...

okay. Unable to get better photos. Looked the PS board up and ordered one online. Will see if it was the problem or not.
Would still like to get my hands on the schematics for this TV. Would like to figure out, and repair, the faulty board.
Hell, I would just like to get to know what the damned acronyms all mean!!!

  • Samsung PN51D550C1FXZA no power up

Okay working on this for a Corpsman and his wife. Here were the symptoms:
Plug it in, wait for a bit and would hear about five clicks from the PS. Front LED would start to blink....2 times, short pause, 2 times, short pause, 2 times, short pause, 2 times, short pause, 2 times, long pause repeat....

Was unable to locate a LED error code diagram so we opened it up.

With everything plugged in Vs was 0V. Did have 5V at STNDBY and 3.25V at PWRON.

Decided to go for a resistance reading, vice voltage reading for the Vs. With everything connected, Vs...

  • Re: emerson lc391em3

Okay, was able to make a few checks tonight. Disconnected all the wires to the main board and leaving the power supply board. So basically, they are the only two items drawing power. If I could figure out how to disconnect the main board I would, but it sends the "on" signal to the PS board. Not sure if it has to "sense" one of the voltages from the power supply to produce a "power good signal".
When in standby there is about 7V on the 12V line, everything else seemed to be at 0V. When turned on the 5V, 12V and 17V are all...

Well let me see if I can get the pictures up. They do seem to be the same boards, but have a little different part number.

By reading the PDF on the other post, I guess I will be picking up some 1157 auto lights tomorrow.

    Hoping these come through okay....

This is what I know, haven't even opened it up yet.
TV was on and working, just shut itself off.
Press ON button or use remote, the power LED flashes, you get the Emerson splash screen (very briefly) and thing shuts off again.
Can hear a click (relay?) when powered on and again when it goes to standby.

Anyone have wiring diagram/schematics or service manual? What do you think the problems could be? Bad power supply board? What is the best way to test? I don't want to just easter egg the thing, would like to be able to prove the faulty part bad before ordering....

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello all. I am a retired Marine, with over 15 years working on radars, and 5 years on computers. I consider myself a above average technician when it comes to most things electrical. I enjoy fixing "stuff". Doesn't really matter what it is, if it is broke I will look at it. It will either get fixed or it will still be broke, but I will have learned something. Sometimes, that is not to touch that item again! I like to, at least, try to fix it, before just throwing it out and getting a new one; doesn't matter what...
