  • Re: Windows Vista Spyware.

Have been getting some pcs at work with Vista on them, not fun. Vista seems to run best with at least 2 gigs of memory installed, and this is for the business edition. Also the Vista Aero theme is a big memory hog, you can try turning it off see link.

Blackviper.com has a good site that explains most of the Vista services, and how to disable them. I have used his site as a guide for XP, but havent tried any of the Vista...

  • Re: Soyo SY-P4VGM Temp Question

Thanks for the reply, the reading is from the motherboard. I kind of thought that it was ok after researching it, but I wasnt sure. I will make sure that I have the most recent bios for the board.

  • Soyo SY-P4VGM Temp Question

I recently purchased this motherboard as a replacement for a friends emachine that died. My question is even though the board is very stable and passed all of the burn in tests I noticed that the temperature of the board seemed to be a little high, about 102 degrees f., and seemed to stay there even when I opened the case and set it over the AC vent. I have placed an extra fan in the case, even tried reversing it but the board always reports about 100f. I was wondering if this is a problem that I should be concerned about, and if replacing the heat sink on the northbridge would help? The cpu temp...

    Thanks
When I first posted here 08-06-2004 about problems I was having with a Soyo Sy-7VCA-E board I was hooked. I have been reading and practicing soldering on various junk boards till I started to get the hang of it. Finally I got around to trying to fix that Soyo board, my kids needed a better pc. Its been running for 7 months every day with a p3 933, works great now. The regular posters on this site do not relize how much help they are to everyday people that just come here to read and learn. I attached a picture that I took of...

  • Re: Compaq UWave Board caps

First let me apoligize for not getting back, been sick, couldnt look at a computer without getting a headache. I am posting some pictures of the case. I est. shipping with UPS and it would cost you about $30.00 to ship UPS ground, the case without psu weighs 15lbs. You could almost buy a new case for that much. I agree with MD Willington, except in WV they dont put them in dumpsters they just sling em out on the side of the road. About two weeks ago I found a pc that had been tossed because of some recent flooding. It had a DFI CA64-TC board,...

If it is a 5108us case, the one with the blue front, and the cd holder. I have a case that I was going to get rid of. If you are interested, I can take a picture and post it. I dont want anything for it, but getting it from West Virginia to Michigan would be a problem. I could even just send you the parts that you need. By the way this one came off the side of the road also....

  • Re: ECS K7SOM v7.5c

The version with the on board ram is the ECS K7SEM v.3.0M. It has support for 256 integrated sdram, and one dimm socket for sdram. I have one of these boards that will not post, acts like the bios is bad.

  • Re: MSI MS-6312 Used in Gateway Flex System - Bad Capacitors

    Thanks Badcaps,

I had also tried to fix one of these for a friend. As I said in an earlier post the system was dead. Switched out power supply, cpu, memory, the works even had my friend get a Gateway tech on the line to confirm the board was dead. Well sorry for the bad picture but as you can see it now will boot, I was even able to get Windows 98 installed with no errors. Right now I have a celeron 600 in it just in case something goes wrong.

Looks can deceive my friend. inside they are...

I have one of these systems that has gone dead also. Have looked at the caps and they all look good. I have tried all the normal trouble shooting and the system wont power on at all. The cpu, memory and psu all work in another system, I even took the board out of the case and still no luck. I have been reading this forum for over a year and since this seems to be a good board for a novice to recap does anyone think this could be the problem? I have already removed 11 caps,

  • I have been reading about bad caps for a while now, and have been interested in trying to recap one of my Soyo Sy-7VCA-E boards. I have two of these boards which ran for about a year, and yes they have Wendel Caps, one had been kind of flakey from the start so I just figured it was just that one board. Went to put a nic card in my other pc and the cap next to the AGP slot had black gunk coming out the top. So I took a look at board number 1 and sure enough it had two caps starting to bulge. Neither of these boards were overclocked and were built with the same case and psu. I have another pc built...
