Please try put insulation under power supply board-make sure it covers the entire board. When you put the board and main bracket down, try tapping on it to see where it touches on back LCD metal.

The power at the main cap, that's probably AC voltage. 120 vac comes in and drops down to 60vac at transformers.
If you can find the new PSU for $30, I think that's that the best way to go. I tried to find one on ebay but couldn't find any at the time....Leave a comment:

If your monitor is still under warranty, then you should contact the HP tech support, I guess.
When I bought my 2740w of ebay, the seller said it would not turn on. So, when I received it I took it apart and tried to do the troubleshoot on the power supply board and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Then I put it back together and looked under the board I saw the power board would touch the LCD metal when I shook or lightly tapped the metal bracket that hold power supply board. The area that I would get vdc, I remember, was in the area I hightlighted in the pic attached, so I would focus on that area. Please BE CAREFUL when work on the board, especially on high voltage area....Leave a comment:

If you can locate the 5v source, then, I am sure, you can fix the power board.
If you get the 5v on P803, then power LED will be on but amber. In order to turn LED backlight on, you'll need to connect video cable to PC;otherwise, it won't turn on.Leave a comment:

Did you see the power led lit up? If the power LED lit up and displayed amber color, then the monitor is probably working fine, but it needs to be plugged in to the computer.
One thing I noticed when I tried to troubleshoot power issue on my ZR2740W for not turning on was this:The monitor wouldn't turn on without plugging video cable to the PC, and the power LED was amber.Last edited by Teeva; 01-03-2015, 06:31 AM.Leave a comment:

I think the power board touched the LCD causing the shorts on power supply. To fix this, you can try insulating the power board from touching LCD by using thin plastic sheet between the power board and lcd.
There is not much clearance between power board and LCD. With little movement or shake, the power board will touch the LCD....Leave a comment:

Try putting insulation between the power board and LCD using thin plastic. This will prevent the power board from touching lcd and shorts the circuit.

Recently I got a unit that had similar issue. When I pressed the power button, the power LED went blue for a few seconds then amber. I got it fixed by putting thin plastic to isolate the power supply board from touching the LCD. There wasn't much clearance between the ps board and lcd.Leave a comment:
