  • Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW

Got my replacement monitor today from samsung. a syncmaster 2433

    1. It took 7 weeks not 7-14 days as promised.
    2. they sent wrong size replacment but I can live with a 24in.
    3. had a loose metal bracket inside rattling around... had to open it up and remove it.
    4. This if funny... has a sticker on front "SAMSUCK" over samsung. LOL It must be a repaired model, and they didn't even remove the sticker! LOL

Seems to work great so far!! wow 24in is HUGE. Been using a 15in. for 7 weeks now!

Sent my monitor in on 8/12/09 for warranty repair. They said 7-14 days. Here it is 5 weeks later and they say it could be another week. Said had a bad backlight or inverter but couldn't get the part so they would exchange it. Exchange took over a week to get approved and now telling me another 7-10 days to send it out. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Samsung Should step up and send one out today since its been over a month in the shop. And yes I have called them several times.. Luckily I can borrow my 15in from work, but its not the same.. My Kill to death ratio...

I can't belive these monitors have a 3 year warranty! Caught me off guard. I figured after 2.5 years it was expired by now. I could have saved $14 in caps and lots of time messing with the thing. Hind sight is always 20/20. Once i found out, I bought a lotto ticket, as its been a lucky day. I was just about to give up, cut my losses and buy a new one!

Change of plans... Thought my monitor was out of warranty and don't have reciept. Called 1 800 samsung and they said it was still under warranty and sounds like a backlight issue. I soldered in old caps so they won't know I messed with it. They are going to have me ship it, then they will have it back to me in 7-14 days... Thats a long time without a moniter.. Guess I could use my S-video cable to hook to my TV or borrorow my monitor from work nightly.

I turned my brighness down from 100 to 33... Now the moniter is working perfectly.. will try different brightness settings and will see what happens. Also will solder in the other 3 caps, and check other solder joints.
I did notice after hours of trying to get the thing to start, that I could see a "shadow image of my desktop" in the background if the lighting in the room was just right. I think its a backlight problem. I do hear a humming sound at times with the lower brightness setting.

I ordered the other 3 caps today. I should have ordered all 6 at once, would have saved me about $5 in shiping, and a few days time. I really hope this fixes my 226 monitor! I'll keep you guys posted.

KicktotheJunk, I'm no expert but took electronics courses about 20 years ago, and do soldering on cars when mice chew through the wires. (It happens a lot) I would reccomend a 30 Watt Iron. Wouldn't go much higher or you will be overkill on heat.
You can pick one up for about $10 bucks from Radio Shack or Sears. Remember to get both...

When screen flickers and goes blank, did not hear any noise.
Most the time it just dosn't want to turn on at all for more then a second. Until its "warmed up".

the caps I have not yet replaced are:
    Capxon brand:
    680 uF 25v GL 105 DEG C C713 Vent (2 of them)
    47 uF 50V GL 105 DEG C C712 Vent (1 of them)
150uf 450V could not read other numbers Glued to circuit Board (really big cap)

I used the Letters DEG but actally shows the Degree Symbol on the caps
    Also noticed 7 others,...

about above post... should I try the 2 25V 680uf Capxons ? Is that worth a shot since the other 3 did not fix? If I should try the other 2, which ones from digi-key should I order as replacements

    Bad News-- for me

I have the 226BW with a similar Issue...
Replaced the 3 caps listed above and still is doing the same exact thing!
Any ideas? (see my post above for problem decription)
Also noticed when it does turn on... once in a while the screen starts to flicker and then it goes blank, with blue light on. Usually happens 2 or 3 times in the first 10-15 minutes.. Then its fine all night long...

Maybe one of the other caps? I don't know that much about diag. I do have a DVOM.

I have a 226BW doing almost the same thing... Blinks "analog" then BLinks "digital" shows my desktop screen for about 1/2 second. then goes blank with blue light still on. Takes about 15-20 tries to get it to stay on...
I took apart my monitor and found it has the same caps as the 225BW.
No signs of damage like some of the other people who have posted.
I ordered the caps listed above... Hope this fixes my problem.
Cost was about $7 with shipping.

    I'll keep you posted...
