  • Re: Samsung Syncmaster 225BW

holy crap, mine is under warranty too... figured it was just 1 year like everything else (that I didn't buy an extended warranty on). I'm gonna redo mine and sent it on the all expense paid trip. Now to work on my solder quality... ugh.

My solder joint at F101 (fuse - little reddish plastic round item between the GIANT cap and the power cord/power toggle assembly) looks unharmed and in great shape. Should I (judging my artwork in soldering by the images above) remove it and resolder the fuse back into place or try to locate another?

The digits printed on the board next to the fuse are :
    F101 (location)
    T3. 15AL
    250V...

Here's a few shots of the board. One is entire, one is left half other is right half. I'm not an electronics repairman of any sort, I paint and remodel homes for a living. -...

Digikey is amazing. I ordered my stuff Thurs eve and Sat. morning, sitting on my doorstep. -

I got the new caps soldered into place, powers up, but same problem still exists. I've replaced all the caps mentioned in this thread:

    2x 680's
    2x 820's
    1x 330
    1x 47
(sorry don't know the keystroke for micro 'u')

The only CapXon cap that I didn't replace was the giant fatty lying down on it's side glued to the board.

Any other suggestions of what I can replace? Or, is...

Just ordered all of the suggested parts (even the ones that aren't known to be faulty). I've never done this crap before, but I'm not a complete moron, so I'll pick up a soldering iron this weekend and give it a shot.

Any tips on a soldering iron purchase for someone who hasn't used one since Electronics courses 15 years ago? (links to products appreciated)

This makes me want to take apart my $800 dell monitor (ouch it still hurts to admit I paid that even 3.5 years after paying that) and check the parts they used on it....

Seems I have the same problem. Turn the monitor on, I see the POST screen (or logo screen) for about 1 or 2 seconds then NOTHING but the blue power light on the button. - I've removed my power board and inspected my CAPS, uh... everything looks and smells normal.

I can post a picture (or link to one) of the actual board if anyone would like to further inspect since I'm a noob here. I'm ready to order the parts, but if my 'parts' aren't bad, then... seems like a waste.
