Re: PSU filter cap leaked after a ground issue?
One more thing before I test the supply.
On the PCB the right most connector is marked as AC/N, while the label on the chassis says that's L. Photo where you can see it: https://i.imgur.com/uVL1NDg.jpg
I've looked on other same type PSU's, neutral has the fuse, on the PCB it's marked as AC/N and it's marked on the chassis as N: https://imgur.com/a/lmeOU
On mine the PCB says it's N, and it has the fuse, but chassis sticker says it's L.
Now I'm confused - where should...

Re: PSU filter cap leaked after a ground issue?
A video I recorded before the power supply failed, demonstrating the EMI/RFI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x64hRllEPrs
Anyhow. I would just like to know if the power supply should work now with the new DC smoothing capacitors in place. If someone understands why the power supply failed in the first place, or if some other part of the PSU could of got damaged, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll be ready to test the power supply. But understanding why it failed in the first place would be great to know for...

Re: PSU filter cap leaked after a ground issue?
The cap was connected between chassis ground and DC negative.
Here's how everything was connected: https://i.imgur.com/KXtnW9u.jpg
The cap was a little higher than 300uF I think, it was rated for around 300V, maybe higher.
Right now I tested continuity between DC negative and chassis ground - I can see that those two are not connected.
EDIT: oh shoot. Connected the hot water pipe connection wrong. Forgot about that completely... Sorry for confusion.

Here are the photos: https://imgur.com/a/8denv
Note the newly installed DC filter caps.
Oh, and yes, when I will try to turn it on, the cap wont be connected between DC ground and AC ground connection. I think I threw that cap away tooRe: PSU filter cap leaked after a gr...ween DC ground...

Re: PSU filter cap leaked after a ground issue?
It seemed the electrolyte came out from the bottom of the cap, together with some smoke. It was very quick. The power supply was bought new and used for a few days.
I still would want to know more correctly what happened, and if I'm okay to try to turn the supply on. I don't want the new caps to die, or the PSU to die in some other way now... Waiting for other people's thoughts...

PSU filter cap leaked after a ground issue?
Hello everyone.
I've got a Smun AS-350-12 (12V 30A) power supply from aliexpress.com. Yes, it's a chinese cheapee, but it seems that it's quality isn't too bad.
Anyhow, I was using it with my HF radio transceiver. The PSU was causing lots of EMI/RFI on HF frequencies, and as a radio operator - that's super annoying.
To reduce that, I took some wire, connected it to the ground terminal of the PSU, and connected that wire to a hot water pipe (I live in EU, in an apartment - no third ground prong in the outlet). EMI got reduced! But just a little bit......

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hey everyone,
My name is Jacob. I'm 16 and I am an amateur radio operator. I've been messing around with electronics since I was very young. I've still got lot's of things to learn, and I'm very happy that I found this forum, now I'll be able to learn so much more
Thanks, and I'll see you on the forums!
