• what is this laptop SMD?

What is this copper coloured SMD labelled PD5 in the picture?
I have a netbook with no signs of life and thought they might be the problem. There are 4 of them near the battery and power terminal, some of them have 19v going in and coming out and some have 19v on one side and a couple hundred mV coming out....

  • Re: Help identifying a Capacitor

Sorry for the double post. I didn't see the multi quote button.

Thanks for all the technical help mariushm. It would take me a lot of reading to find all that out.

I read that the voltage on a capacitor it is the maximum it can handle without dying so it is advised to use one with a higher value than the voltage in the circuit. I am a big noob when it comes to this kind of stuff. Is it different for voltage conversion?...

Thanks for the reply tw. I was confused by the 6 because I looked at a few guides on reading capacitors and they said that 6 and 7 are not used. I hope your right because it makes it a lot easier. Can anyone else confirm this is correct?...

  • Re: toshiba A200 la3481p

I have fixed about 6 Toshiba a200 laptops. All of them needed the nec/token oem128 replaced. As it dies it causes problems like losing power for no reason, losing power when you are running off the battery then plug the charger in and other variations of that.

Here is a link to a youtube video of the best way I have seen to remove the chip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJRLOw0-NsY

I replaced it with 4 of these

  • Help identifying a Capacitor

    Hi all,
I have a toshiba a100 that i started taking apart a year ago and finally found the time to get back to it. I think it used to just lose power all of a sudden. I just checked all the caps on the MB with an ESR meter and I have found a cap that is testing 10 times worse than the 5 other caps on of the same type the board.
I have spent a lot of time trying to find out what type of cap it is so I can order a replacement but it doesn't seem to conform to any marking scheme that I can find. Have provided a pic. It is about 3mm by 4mm and hard to read. I think it says 476G and...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi. My name is Ben. I am from Australia and found this site a year or two ago when I was trying to fix a toshiba a200. I have fixed about 6 of them since and am starting to try fixing other laptops. This site great, the best on the internet for fixing motherboards. I have very little technical skills or knowledge but have enjoyed what little work I have done. It is an amazing feeling when you resurrect an electronic device that someone once loved enough to spend thousands of dollars on.
