  • Re: Planar PLL2410W LED monitor has weird screen issue

There are 3 boards. One appears to be the main power supply. A smaller one that I would guess is the driver for the LED strips. Then the 3rd that has the connections to DVI, RGB, and ribbons to the LED panel and buttons. I would guess this last one is the same as the T-con board? The only board that is on the panel itself is the one that seems to simply divide all the connections along the edge of the panel.

Hmmm I'm guessing this isn't common with the lack of replies. I'm thinking it's on the processing side, so I guess I'll take a look there and hope for some cold soldering or the like.

  • Planar PLL2410W LED monitor has weird screen issue

So I got this newer monitor from work since they were throwing it out. I was hoping the caps would be the issue, but no. It seems more of a bad connection of sorts? It seems heat is a factor because when it's been off for a while, it will turn on fine for a few minutes, then the lower 2/3 of the screen go to lines, and shortly after the top 1/3 does the same. After power cycling, it will happen much faster. This happens on different PCs, so I don't think that's the issue. I used the DVI port to connect it. Jiggling the cords didn't affect it.

I can't send it back since I'm not the...

Top finds I'd say was a 22" LCD with a Dell E510 tower sitting by a garbage can in my neighborhood. The monitor had a few bad caps as well as the power supply on the tower. After repairs, I had a new PC setup!

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi, new to the forum. I've been dabbling in electronics repair for a couple of years now. This started with repairing arcade machines, then got into fixing my failed electronics around the house. Currently I've got an in with my local IT at work where they give me their bad monitors now and then. Usually it's a few caps, but sometimes it's much deaper such as '2 sec to black' failures. I have fun fixing them, and I can keep swapping out my home PC monitor with the latest repair! It's nice to upgrade my family's monitors too....
