  • Re: Panasonic Plasma TV with flickering screen

I agree - It was fun and a nice fix. I was like a little kid waiting for a toy to come in the mail. Once I got the SU card , I was so excited about getting it installed . The whole process was enjoyable. Thanks again for your help.
......... I have a old Samsung Rear-projection TV (Model HCN653W) out in my shop that I am thinking about working on. This is a 65" high definition TV that is probably at least 10 years old. It actually still works, except I have a convergence problem with it. The people or objects on the...

!!Repaired!! - good news. The SU card was the culprit of my flickering screen. I had a little trouble getting the horizontal black lines to go away, but finally got the ribbon cables seated correctly and now everything looks good. Thank you Zacheriaj , LTank, Tom66, & edevans122. I could not have repaired this without your help.

Thanks Tom. I will try that. I feel like I am putting the ribbon cable in far enough, but I have never heard or felt a click.

I guess by remove and replace , you are referring to receding the ribbon cable connections? If so, I have done tried that several times. I picked up some Electronic Cleaner at the local electronics store. However, I am not sure if it is a good idea to spray this cleaner on this ribbon cable or not. What about the emory cloth, is that a good or bad idea?

Zach - after I installed my new SU card, I had these little black horizontal lines going across the top portion of my Plasma screen. I say little, but some of them were 2" tall. I could tweak the ribbon cable a little bit and most of them would go away, but not all. I never could get them to all go away. Do I need to look at cleaning the ribbon contacts, and maybe taking a can of air and blowing out the ribbon jack. What is the best way to do this?

I have installed my new SU card. However, I have these little black horizontal lines going accross the top of my screen. I can tweak the ribbon cables and some of the lines go away, but not totally. Should I get some type of cleaner or emory cloth for my ribbon cables?

  • Re: Panasonic Plasma TV with flickering screen

Zach - I ended up purchasing these 2 cards on Ebay. I actually messed up doing the Paypal thing and placed 2 orders for these cards, so now I have 4 cards coming. They were suppose to be here two days ago on Friday, but they never made it. I guess I will get them Monday or Tuesday. May need a little assistance changing out this SU card properly. Do you have any helpful hints? What is the correct procedure on disconnecting the ribbon cables going to the Plasma screen? There is also a weird looking connector close to the bottom of...

Zacheriaj - here are the pictures you requested. I was thinking the SU card on the top left might be a suspect for my trouble, since this card is attached to the top half of the Plasma screen. I may have to send you 2 sets of pictures for clarity....

I agree - I took the back off of the TV and cleaned it up real good. Then I set a box fan up to blow on the back. I never did shut down, but it did flicker some. When I put the cover back on it and ran it normally, it shut down in about 2 hours.

Yes - I will try do that today and reply back to you. I really believe this is heat related. I took the back off and cleaned all the vents real good and set a box fan up to blow on it while it was turned on. It played for a long time without and problems. However, when I put the cover back on and let it run normally, it lasted about 2 hours before it started flickering and then shutting down.

  • Panasonic Plasma TV with flickering screen

I have a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV (42PX75U) that the top half of the screen will start flickering intermmittently with a white screen. The TV will actually work fine for about 2 hours or so when I first turn it on, and then the flickering will start. Then it will get worse and then finally the whole picture will completely go away. Then I get the 7 blinking red light. If I unplugged the power to the TV and let it sit for a while, it will work fine again, and then repeat. Any ideas on what card this might be?

Howdee to everybody. My name is Jimmy. I thought I had already posted an introduction, but it is asking me to please do it again. So anyway - I think this website is Awesome and look forward to visiting with other technicians with different types of backgrounds. Sounds like there are some real smart people on this forum. I am an Electronic Technician, but I have limited knowledge on TV repairs. Look forward to chatting with some of you.

HEY MO - I am new as well. I ran across your website while searching for a fix on my
Plasma TV. This is AWESOME. Sounds like there are some very qualified
technicians on this forum and that really intrigues me.

I am not a computer genius, but I am computer literate. I got my Associates
as an Electronic Technician back when the tube-type TVs were going solid-
state. I went to work with phone company after I graduated and have been ...
