Re: Gigabyte GA-7VA
I have a GA-7VAXP that had those GSC crap caps on it and they were very crusty on top. I ended up replacing every cap on the board with some nichicon's about six months ago and it has rock solid every since, now my ps2 ports stopped working but the caps look OK.

Re: Re-Cap and No Post
You could try a ATX power supply tester. You can find them cheap a most comp stores. Also check your ATX connector on your Mobo to make sure no gunk or something is in there. check all wires on the PSU for breaks as a hidden bad wire can make you want to drink and check your caps in the PSU since its all apart anyhow.

Re: Different Types of Capacitor Mounting
I have something close to that in the trunk of my car. I use them to store power for my amps so when the bass hits my light don't dim. the brand is lightning caps and they pack a punch to them. a friend of mine damn near blew his hand off messing with his .

Re: Gigabyte GA-7ZXE, GA-7VAXP
I just replaced 9 bad ones on my GA-7VAXP ultra. the thing still ran great and never froze or crashed once. I was just doing my case dusting and noticed all the 3300uf GSC's where crusty and swollen in every which way the rest (which were GSC and supacon)were just swollen. I have great cooling in this case and the cpu never get's above 34c even after 7hrs of fragg'n. I used nichicon PW's and replaced every cap on the board (450uf and up) just to be safe since I do use the raid funcion of this board for speed not saftey now that got to checking...

Re: Heatsink glue
Did you try BGA heatsinks, They work real good for me on my mosfets. I have been using artic silver 2 part thermal epoxey for 3 or 4 years now and never had a HS fall off ( one is a VIA mini ITX EPIA in my car for Navigation, DVD's and light computer work i.e. mobile internet borrowing )

Re: Is my motherboard doomed?
First I would replace that dead video card fan, as the heat build up in your GPU core could lock it up tight in short order, even with the side off the HS was not designed to rid that much heat passively, new HS&fan are perty cheap unless you go big and passive (i.e. zallman, thermaltake giant). second dump the ME os, this was a thorn for M$ as they quitely swept it under the rug. also try removing some PCI cards one by one to see if you have some other hardware thats bad or has a IRQ conflict. make sure all your drivers are up to date also.
