Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
So i have made a bit more progress now
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Y540-BIOS-Recovery-Mode-Flash-BIOS-from-USB/m-p/5026109
It is possible to do a forced bios recovery via usb if you fail a bios update on your Y545
i have attempted this but still have no system up again going, i suspect playing with the vbios chip first didnt help..
but i am getting my 1.8v programmer in the next few days
i know no ones commenting but im still posting,...

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
So far iv been having a bit of luck

i have attached the bios dump
Set it as Winbond W25Q128BV.
Now awaiting the 1.8v Adapter to reprogram the Vbios
Atm im still getting a blinking power light and a brief fan spin, then looking every 15 seconds...

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
from my findings the 25B127DSIG is a SPI Bios Chip but of a lesser known brand

Since my programmer doesn't want to read from it, might try and harvest a W25Q128 off an old dead laptop (have a few to pick from) and program and installRe: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios U...ut of a lesserLast edited by bboyzell; 01-26-2021, 02:17 PM.

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
it has left my slightly confused as the model number has 127 in it, not 128 like most chips...

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
from my googling the chip in the UC3 Position, is a Power IC
yet in the Y540 Schematic its mentions to be a W25Q128JVSIQ_SO8 at this position

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
That would make sense..
..now my 341 Programmer is giving me errors writting to it..
I have found the UC3 located just next to the m.2 slot.
once i have written the Vbios and put it back i will then do a dump of the bios
Chip number: 25B127DSIG...

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
Bingo, Found the Chip W25Q80EWNIG 1.8v , now the drama of finding a bios dump thats usuable
Im mostly finding dumps like this
https://www.alisaler.com/legion-y545-fy515-516-517-518-fy523-524-525-526-nm-c221-rev2-0-bios/
that are 8mbyte not /8mbit
I did do dump using my CH341A, and have attached it .binRe: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios U...ama of finding...Last edited by bboyzell; 01-23-2021, 12:00 AM.

Re: Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
there is a separate bios chip to the EC?, i thought the bios was intergrated in to the EC
I did tear it down and had a quick look couldnt spot anything resembling it

Lenono Legion Y545 Failed Bios Update. Program Chip?
Hi Guys
I purchased a Lenovo Legion Y545 (i7 9750 / RTX 2060)
The previous owner he told me it failed a bios update.
I thought cool i could use a simple EEPROM Programmer, nope
I didn't realize that lenovo don't use EEPROM chips, but EC
So from my findings i can use a Vertyanov Programmer, to reprogram my EC chip via the keyboard connection, but im not 100% sure on this
The Mainboard in my legion is NM-C221 Rev2.0
The Lenovo EC is
IT8226E-192
1919-BXA
S16YSA
L003

Re: LG50PA6500 No Display, Suspected PSU
Upon a Closer inspection, i think i have found a Crease on the ribbon cable nearest to the top of the Plasma, it looks to almost be at a right angle compared to the rest of the smooth flowing cable
I take it them its not worth procedding with trying to fix this unit, replacing the upper buffer would just result in the new one being shorted out by the Panel (wasting $70+)
Thanks alot for you time & Input Helping me with this Tom!...

Re: LG50PA6500 No Display, Suspected PSU
I have now just tested out the Upper Buffer Board
I tried it the following ways.
No Lower Buffer Board + Upper Buffer Board + Panel Connected = Poor Voltage
No Lower Buffer Board + Upper Buffer Board + Panel Not Connected = Poor Voltage
My Conclusion if a "Faulty Upper Buffer Board" Sadley it seems to be the more costly Than most the the other boards on the Plasma
Proceeding to Do this
Testing Y-Buffer Board for short Circuits

Re: LG50PA6500 No Display, Suspected PSU
Ok, Removed the Upper Buffer Board.
I am now getting display on the lower half of the Screen
-VY is Running at a constant 184.x
VSC is running at a Constant 145.x
I will visibly inspect the top buffer board and see if i can see anything foul...
