• Re: AUO T315xw02 V4 bad t-con

I tested the diode with the power off, the power supply resets back to standby (probably because the 5V line is shorted and pulled back low) so no voltage reading.

My multimeter has a diode setting which is the same as the 2000 ohm scale. I checked the diode with the leads in one direction and then the other. Both times it read 0-1 ohms....

  • Re: Vizio SV471XVT IR Sensor not working

I just realized a power surge could also come through the antenna or one of the other video input/outputs, in which case, it would still pass through the mainboard, but not the power supply. I guess it is possible.

  • Re: Vizio SV471XVT IR Sensor not working

Seems a little puzzling to me... if the t-storm killed the IR sensor only and not anything else, was the TV struck directly by lightning? If it came through the power line it would have to go through the power supply and the mainboard before it would get the IR sensor board, unless this tv is different from other ones I've seen.

I've found in every LCD tv I've ever worked on, the IR sensor board is the same electrically although not physically. You could take an IR sensor board from a completely different TV and it will probably...

  • Re: AUO T315xw02 V4 bad t-con

No, I haven't tried that, although I realize I made a mistake in my previous post when I said the diode failed open. I should have said it's shorted in both directions, not failed open. I'm hoping that it sacrificed itself to save all the other components.

BTW, when I powered it on with the 12v instead of 5v, there was no drama, no sparks or magic smoke. Just a backlight, but no picture. By the time I realized my mistake, it was too late.

I think the failed FET on the mainboard prevented the P/S from resetting. After I...

  • AUO T315xw02 V4 bad t-con

I thought I was being smart and I tried to do a mainboard swap with a newer mainboard. Unfortunately I forgot to set the 5v/12v jumper and I accidentally sent 12V into the T-con board for this panel which was only suppose to get 5V.

I think I also blew a transistor/FET on the mainboard, one that switches power on to the LVDS connecton. Luckily I was able to swap that transistor with one from a similar mainboard, and I even got it working.

I know the mainboard works now, because I plugged it into an AUO T315xw01 VC panel, which is also 5V and has the same LVDS connector...

  • Fixed! Sort of... Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

Well, I now have a working TV, although it is no longer an Insignia. Having determined that the mainboard was bad, I looked online for a replacement, but it seems all of them are more than I am willing to pay.

Since I had the full schematics and the datasheet for the Panel, I quickly realized that I could use the mainboard from any TV that had used a panel with the same resolution and voltage.

So I ebayed the cheapest 720p mainboard I could find, and with a lot of soldering...

I'm about to see if I can pick up one of these sets with a bad mainboard. Can somebody send me the Service manual? Thanks

  • Re: RCA 32 LCD TV Model RLC3273A-B

Turns out my memory was a little off when I wrote my previous message. The startup sequence is like this:

Press power button. Set turns on, red LED turns Blue, PSON goes to 4.15 volts from 0.04
2 seconds later backlight turns on, but no image on screen
5 seconds later, backlight turns off AND LED turns red from blue
1 second later PSON goes from 4.15 to 0.04 volts.

I also watched the 5VSB and 5V lines and both were about 4.9volts.
The 5VSB never fluctuated as the set turn on or off....

  • RCA 32 LCD TV Model RLC3273A-B

I'm having the exact same problems as the Set in this thread

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25446

Same model, (when I get home I'm going to check the serial number to see if I didn't buy that exact TV as the OP)

Anyways, the symptoms are as follows.

Turn tv on (Standby LED goes from red to blue), backlight turns on, but no image on screen. About 5 seconds later backlight turns off. 3 seconds after that, set goes back to standby (blue LED turns back to red).

I checked the PSU voltages and they...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) - Mainboard (CBPF8Z5KQ1) postmortem

I've come to the conclusion that it is the ZR39770 main processor that is dead, perhaps due to overheating. It appears the heatsink might have shifted and there looks to be some discolouration from heat.

    What do you guys think?

If I find a replacement should think about installing a cooling fan?

Attached is a picture of the part of the board that is normally under the shield cover. The main processor is the one in the center....

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

Well, another night of troubleshooting and I have come up empty handed.

I checked two circuits, the BL_ON signal, which comes directly from the main processor (ZR39770 in this case), and the PANEL_ON signal which turns on the power to the TCON. Nether one is turning on, which in turn is not turning either the backlight or powering the TCON board.

I have already verified the backlight is fine by jumpering the BL_ON signal. I haven't had the guts to try jumpering the PANEL_ON (all those tiny little...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

I checked all the regulators and they all appear to be working, even the one underneath the shield (took me a while to desolder those 8 metal tabs).

I just realized that when I turn off the set, the led flashes red 15 times before it goes solid. Does that have any significance? Under that metal shield there's a Zoran ZR39770 chip, which seems to be used in a lot of sets. Anybody know if this might be a diagnostic code?

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

At first I was confused which pin was which, but the fact that there was a matching pair of pins labeled "ON/OFF" and "DIM" on both headers tipped me off that these must be the backlight on/off and control. I checked the service manual, and I confirmed this was the case, before I tried the resistor to turn on the backlight.

On this particular PSU, the pin labeled "PS" turns it on.

Incidentally, I found that if I turned on the TV with the resistor...

I guess my next step is to start checking voltage regulators. Luckily for me, I have the schematic, so I at least have an idea which components to check first. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

While I'm at that, does anybody know what issues a bad T-CON board might cause? Could it prevent the backlight from turning on? Just want to rule out that possibility.

Yes, it's the one that just passes straight through the PSU board and is next to the pin marked "DIM" which I presume is the backlight brightness control. That one is 0V as well....

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

I'm guessing the NTC thermistor isn't the problem if the PSU is turning on, I thinking the mainboard has the issue.

I'd like to troubleshoot it, any ideas what parts commonly go? Voltage regulators? Or should I just go and buy a replacement board. I really don't want to order one and find out the problem is somewhere else.

  • Insignia NS-LCD37-09 (E378AZNKW1BCNN) no picture or sound

Hi I have an Insignia LCD tv I picked up for a song. It doesn't work, and the person I bought it from said he went on vacation and when he came back it wasn't working anymore, so he suspects it got hit by a power surge.

When plugged in, the red standby LED comes on. When turned on, the led goes to blue, but no picture appears, and I couldn't get any sound from a device hooked up to it.

I opened it up, and there are no obvious bulging capacitors anywhere. I did find one component that looked a little suspect, marked "NR901" on the PSU board. One of the legs looks...

  • ATI HD4850 graphics card

The other day when I went to turn on my computer, I heard a loud bang like a gunshot, and I saw flames and smoke inside the case. Long story short, apparently my power supply died (no more cheap PS' for me anymore) and it took my MB, my HD and my video card along for the ride. I'm asking here about the video card.

I'm wondering is it worthwhile to try fixing it myself? Only one of the caps blew, but maybe I should replace others as well?
